A decent platformer that borrows from other games...

User Rating: 7.5 | Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee XBOX
Recommend---Any platformer fans and people who like the Oddworld games, even if it is the weakest in the series

Not Recommend---People who have played way too many platformers and will recognize elements from those games in this one

Just like my Dead or Alive 3 review before this, I have not played any of the other Oddworld games. This was my first and only time I ever played one. And once again, judging from other people's reviews and responses from this game compared to the others in the series, this one is the worst. The whole game is actually pretty enjoyable. It's just that nothing quite new is added to the platforming genre here, and it takes a lot of elements from other platformers that it will feel like you've played it before. Also, as fun as it is, it's also very bland. Most of the time you're just running around, picking up those green things (I forget what they're called), and everything you have to do is a little repetitive. Sometimes the camera can be a problem, too, but not often. I have only played a little bit of this game, so I don't really know the extent of the story yet. You play as a freaky looking monster guy named Abe and this fish dude Munch, and I think you have to save Munch's race of fish people. The graphics in the cutscenes are outstanding, but not so much in the actual game. It's actually really disappointing for an Xbox game, even if it is a launch title. The sound is decent, but also a little repetitive. It's overall a fun, but average, platformer.

Conclusion---Just like a lot of other launch titles for the Xbox, you can get this game for really cheap now ($7). If you want to complete your collection of Oddworld games, then there is no problem with this game. It's just that fans outside of the Oddworld scene and the platform scene probably won't find this game to be quite as enjoyable. If you've never really played a platformer game before, then this won't disappoint (especially since they wouldn't recognize the borrowed elements), but if you did then as I said before it would feel as if you've played this before. Overall, though, I would check it out.
