This is the kind of game that reminds me why I spend time on GameSpot. If a NyxQuest video hadn't appeared "in the mix" on the Wii page, I would never even have known that this game existed, and it would have been a shame because it is a very enjoyable game.

In ancient Greece, Icarus falls in love with a beautiful girl that lives up in the heavens. He comes there every day, but suddenly he stops coming. The girl, Nyx, realise that something is wrong, so she decides to go down to earth and risk abandoning her eternal life. She wanders through a deserted land filled with sand and ruins. The earth is about to be destroyed by the great Helios, and even the gods are powerless, so they have nothing better to do than guiding this young angel on her way to find her soulmate.

There is no voice acting in the storytelling, nor any moving characters, it is all brought to you through text, and in the cutscenes there are pictures. It is all done in a way that thoroughly sticks to the ancient Greek styIe that dominates this game. There is not many twists to the story, and I think I could have told the whole story just by doubling the length of the last paragraph, but it is a good story nonetheless, and I think they tell the story in a good and clever way.

The game is a 2D platformer. In the game, you control Nyx by jumping with A, flapping your wings with A, gliding through the air with Z and running with Z. You also control the gods that are helping her by pointing at the screen and pressing B to interact. This is what makes the game so unique, because it gives some puzzles you don't find anywhere else. You for instance move objects with Zeus' help. However, you can only hold it for a limited time. The fact that Nyx can fly doesn't ruin the platforming elements. She can only flap her wings five times before she must land again, and she can only float through the air for a limited amount of time.

I would be the first one to say that graphic is not very important in a game, but nevertheless it is great to see a game so good-looking that the graphics alone is almost enough reason to buy it. Particularily the background looks fabulous. The character design is simple, and Nyx becomes rather little on the screen. The game has artistic design that is capable of competing with games like Super Mario Galaxy. And the graphics really suits the ancient Greek setting. The music is great as well, though it has rather little variation.

The difficulty of the game is increasing, with the final level being challenging in a very good way. I won't go into too much detail, but you will have to give your attention both to the background and the foreground at the same time. Personally, I was slightly disappointed by the final battle. If you choose the best strategy, it is rather easy.

This whole review might seem like praising to the game, so I should probably devote a paragraph to explaining why I didn't give it a higher score. Well, while the game is great in every way, the gameplay is not good enough for it to compete with materpieces like 2D Mario games. Also, there is a tiny problem with repetition on the beginning, before you get more gods by your side. It is not a big problem though, cause the game is only four or five hours long. Another small problem, is that there is little gameplay value here.

While I doubt it will be on your top ten list, this is a game I encourage you to buy. You will have four to five pleasant hours, and I think you will find it to be 1000 wii points well spent. What makes me sad, is that I think many gamers will overlook this (as with most WiiWare games). Please buy this game and save it from ending up in the "best game no one played" category.
