The game is a blast to play but the action is broken up by annoying mandatory side jobs and a broken sandbox style city.

From Suda51, same maker of the stylistic game Killer7, comes this awesome adventure game. No More Heroes is set in the city of Santa Destroy. The main idea is to go advance up the ranks from ten ranks to eventually being top dog. To rank up you got to go kill that said ranked member. Between the killings you will buy some clothes for your wardrobe, do errands for money around town, and might as well take a big steaming dump to save.

You press the A button to slash your beam katana and use gestures with your Wii mote and nunchuck to finish your opponent off with Travis Touchdown's ever expanding arsenal of Mexican wrestling moves or just plainly slashing them to bloody pieces splatter everywhere. You can even use power ups from a slot machine and use charge attacks. The game's fighting mechanics is a fun experience using the perfect balance of waggling the wiimotes and just pressing a button, a problem for some reason a lot of Wii games seem to have. The way the game handles motion control makes it seem fun and just barely not used enough to make it feel gimmicky and over used.

Each killing of the rank is spaced out by roaming the city of Santa Destroy doing odd jobs for cash to qualify for the next rank opportunity. These side jobs are all really terrible and boring. You just want to finish with them so you can get back to the fun game again with the killing and whatnot. The city is set up as a sandbox game but the city feels dead and just feels like extra space to go locations such as shops or the gym. No More Heroes did not need the sandbox style world and it did not handle it well. Even the motorcycle that you use to travel around the boring city is not the best at handling. Those are the main issues with the gameplay, the annoying side jobs that are required to press on with ranking up and the monotonous sandbox style city that is not implemented well at all.

The music is alright. It gets the job done but is not too memorable. It matches the tone of the game well though always. The game has a lot of charm to it. Travis is a very enjoyable guy and the game has a certain style to it. Travis is a likeable otaku with certain characteristics that make him so. Each ranked killer has their own little theme which makes them all unique and awesome characters. The way the graphics where handled and the way everything was presented all gave the game a great likeability and charm to it. Though sometimes there is a lot of pop up of things like building and sometimes there is a bit of lag but rarely.

The sandbox style world is not handled well and just breaks up the awesome action that is ranking up and killing a unique a memorable crew of killers.. The sandbox style world is not handled well and just breaks up the awesome action that is ranking up and killing a unique a memorable crew of killers. No More Heroes is a nice detour from the normal Wii family game and is one of the best Wii third party games out there.
