Although it has numerous flaws, Nintendogs: Best Friends is an enjoyable experience presented fairly well.

User Rating: 7.1 | Nintendogs: Best Friends DS
Those furry, cute dogs of different breeds had me hooked from day one. Back in 2005, when I saw how good Nintendogs: Best Friends looked (along with other news of the Nintendo DS), I knew I had to get this special edition bundle. With its beautiful presentation and intriguing style of gameplay, this game is an enjoyable experience, although it has some rather noticeable flaws that can ruin the moment.

Gameplay: 7/10 | For a good period of time, petting your dog, raising it and feeding it, walking it, finding items and dressing up your dog, playing with it, teaching it tricks and trick combinations, and more is extremely interesting and addicting for the most part. However, this gets too boring too quickly. Soon, bathing your dog, entering competitions, and even purchasing different houses with money becomes dull rapidly. Although it's a rather fun game, Nintendogs: Best Friends gets redundantly repetitive and chore-like much too quickly.

Graphics: 8/10 | Despite the beautiful, smooth visuals of the hundreds of other DS games released since Nintendogs: Best Friends, it still maintains charming, graceful, and soft, delicate, and lighthearted graphics. At times, it seemed extremely pixelated, though, and I wished it would be smoother and less jaggedy. The backgrounds on the street and different house formats are fairly interesting but repetitive, and detailed dogs are nice, too. For one of the earlier DS games, the graphics were superb (and also for present-day standards).

Sound: 6/10 | I wasn't too impressed with the quality of sound, but it was all good. An okay soundtrack with somewhat realistic barking and doors opening and such enhanced the gaming experience, yet for me, it made it all seem more disappointing, since it seems that sound could be much more improved. I liked, though, how the music was warm and reminds you of home, comforting and soothing your senses...

Value: 7/10 | If you are planning to buy the Nintendo DS, definitely buy this value pack, for it will last you a fairly long while. If you are planning to get Nintendogs, try purchasing this version on the Internet. Although it is worth what it sells for, Nintendogs seems to lack that feature that makes you want to play a game for hours and hours at a time, all adding up to hundreds of hours.

Tilt: 7/10 | Nintendogs: Best Friend is in no way revolutionary, but it delivers a gaming experience that is well-presented and innovative, so few people will mind very much. Overall: 7.1/10 Good | Nintendogs: Best Friend is a game worth playing, but proceed it with caution. Although it has many faults, few gamers will mind because it's an innovative, well-detailed gaming experience with surprising depth recommended for gamers of all ages and skill level, especially dog lovers!
