Compared to a PC browser, this doesn't add up. But as far as having a browser in the palm of your hand, this is clutch.

Ok, sure. Having a web browser on the Nintendo DS Lite isn't the first thing that DS owners think of when they get their system. But, for convenience and ease, this browser is great.

There are two viewing modes, one is "SSR Mode" (with the icon looking like one singular box), which uses the dual screens as one tall screen. It stretches images to fit on the screen, and the entire page is smushed together to fit the width of the DS resolution. Most pages don't even resemble their normal selves, and I use this mode the least bit I can.

The second mode is "Overview Mode", (which has the dual-screen symbol), and the two screens operate separately. One screen is of course the "Overview", showing you the page in it's entirety. Little or no distortion is done to most websites, and if there is any scrolling width-wise, the webmaster should most likely reduce this (as no one should really have to scroll horizontally). The second screen is the 'zoomed' screen, and it shows you what is being pointed to in the Overview screen. These two screens can be switched between the top screen and the touch screen whenever you like (and also quite quickly). You're not completely lost with the zoomed screen on the touch screen too - just drag your stylus in the direction you'd like to move the screen. It's just like being zoomed in 200% or 250% on a .PDF file, and using the hand cursor to move the viewing space. Responds quite well.

Overall, I am pleased with the European version for the NDS Lite. At about fifty bucks, this product may be a bit pricy for most, but for some (like myself) the cost is worth it. Sure, the NDS Lite is not powerful in terms of today's computing standards, and sure, it's a lot easier to browse on your computer, but being able to browse the net practically anywhere in range of a wireless access point is quite intriguing (it even has proxy server settings!) I don't know about you but even the smallest laptop can't fit in the palm of my hand as I walk around the house... Enter the NDS Lite with Opera Browser. Ka-ching.
