First game from new publisher Take-Two coming later this year for unspecified "consoles."
Take-Two today confirmed it had acquired the WWE license from THQ and will ship WWE '14 for unspecified "consoles" this fall. Take-Two's new deal with the WWE is described as multiyear, though financial terms were not specified.
Series developer Yuke's is behind WWE '14.
Specific platforms for WWE '14 were not announced, though next-generation platforms from Microsoft and Sony will reportedly be on shelves this holiday season.
Very disappointing that Yuke's will be sticking around. Looks like I'll continue my non-interest in wrestling games.
Any chance they can bring back the mixed matches? I like playing both male and female of my countless CAWs. It would be sad and pretty much unacceptable if playing Tekken with nina you could only face anna, julia etc...
Take Two getting this makes me curious but without mixed matches I stick with 2009 forever...
Most of the wrestling games I have played since the N64 era have been extremely lackluster.
'13 was a decent step in the right direction. Still needs improvements with glitches, bugs, creation options etc.. I am seeing more as I play, but it is not hard to notice that they actually put effort into it this time. The Attitude era stuff was a really nice touch!
I am not really eager to go out and get '14 either, we are still exploring '13. I don't think they will have that much to offer. However The next WWE game that comes out after '14 I will be more inclined to get, as I feel there will be more change, and hopefully improvements to warrant a whole new game. (Not to mention being under a new publisher with a little bit different input)
Not really surprising seeing how the game was already in development. Lets hope Take-Two drops this yearly tradition and get someone else to developed the next WWE game.
WWE '13 was sustainable due to the fact it was all Attitude Era focused, which definitely pushed the game up a notch in my book. I am excited for Take Two being publisher but I'm really pissed Yuke's is still the developer. I was hoping to see a fresh perspective, now I'll probably just see the same game I did last year.
@OneSamTwoCups I couldn't agree more, I too wanted to see a new developer. Maybe Take Two will take them in a new and better direction.
WWE 12 was an absolute joke but the difference in graphics from that game compared to WWE 13 was a bit better. They need to get the body sizes right and the toning right, Rock looked like he was made of shiny plastic. The concept for WWE 13 was awesome, bring us more of that Attitude Era stuff any day. It's a snoozefest whenever Cena gets a storyline you have no choice but to play in the previous installments. I'd love to see Attitude Era during the early 2000's right before Trish left as well as Rock and Stone Cold. I'd love to play the famous Stone Cold whooping Booker T's ass in a supermarket match. That was hilarious. And who could ever forget the Vince McMahon kiss my ass club? lol. Not that I want THAT part in it but it would be funny just for kicks. Big Evil Undertaker would be bad-ass, but for God's sake STOP giving him the same recycled outfit year in and year out. Update it with what he wore at Mania last year. This could either hurt or be good for the WWE game franchise, one more game for me, let's make it a good one please! And yes No Mercy was insane, one of my all time faves, I loved how you got to choose 4 different outfits to wear for each character. Bring that back plus more backstage shit.
Last good wrestling games were last seen on GameCube. DoR series were spiritual successors to the originals WWF No Mercy and Wrestlemania 2000. PS2 games were nice but ful of over the top gimmicky action that had very little in the way of strategy based gameplay. PS Smackdown games had the atmosphere but gameplay was weak as all hell. If Yukes went back to the old play style of having to bide your time to unleash finishers after wearing your opponent down and strategic reversals you feel much better when you pull of that win. One button reversal system and this weird mechanic of analog stick use for everything makes the game seem more of a pain than it ever used to be, I still play SVR 2006 in place of anything made on the PS3, that's how bad the new games were, I prefer to play PS2 and GC games over them.
Even 2006 was a complete mess. I played through it once, and returned it to the used game shop where I got it from. 2007, with Trips on the cover, I played it for a half hour and dumped it. 2008, the one with Underbiker, Cena & Black Lesnar, I think I spent more time going through menus than I did playing the actual game. :(
Last good wrestling game I played was nearly 10 years ago on PS2. - Here Comes the Pain. The first Smackdown vs Raw game was okay, not great, just okay. The others that followed it were just a broken unplayable mess, whether it was PS2, 360 or PS3.
Hasn't been a good Wrestling game since WCW/NWO Revenge for the N64. I would rather play Pro Wrestling for the NES than the swill they throw down today.
the only way this game will be good if they finally bring backstage areas back and have more matches and better gameplay
