[UPDATE] Character art for Nova, Phoenix Wright, Dr. Strange, Nemesis, and more found on Capcom servers; publisher acknowledges leak.
Source: Dueling message board threads on GameFAQs and NeoGAF full of eager gamers fishing for artwork of various characters hosted on Capcom servers.
What we heard: This morning, Capcom officially announced Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, along with four of the 12 new characters: Hawkeye, Ghost Rider, Firebrand, and Strider. Soon after, the GameFAQs thread appeared with links to character art on a Capcom server for three additional characters: Dead Rising's Frank West, Phoenix Wright, and Dr. Strange.
It appears Capcom had all the art files named after the characters portrayed therein, so by taking the same URL for, say, Hawkeye's art and substituting the name of another character, it would be possible to reveal the game's roster with some good guesses. The NeoGAF community quickly picked up on the leak, and what followed was a barrage of guesswork that pushed both threads to dozens of pages in length, and uncovered eight previously unseen pieces of artwork.
On the Marvel side, the new artwork consisted of Dr. Strange, Nova, Rocket Raccoon, and Iron Fist. As for Capcom's additional foursome, that lineup featured Phoenix Wright, Frank West, Resident Evil's Nemesis, and Devil May Cry antagonist Vergil. All of the artwork has since been pulled down, though the server still hosts pictures of Hawkeye, Hulk, and other confirmed characters in the game.
The official word: Capcom had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment as of press time.
Bogus or Not Bogus: Looking not bogus, but clarification should come soon enough. Marvel and Capcom both have panels at this week's Comic-Con where they're slated to discuss the game.
[UPDATE]: Capcom has acknowledged the authenticity of the leak, and provided the following statement:
"Today we announced Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for PS3 and X360 as well as the first four characters and a playable build for this week's San Diego Comic-Con. As part of that, you may have seen some of our new characters for the game pop up on the Internet a bit earlier than anticipated. We are very happy with the positive response to the lineup, but at this point we're only going to focus on the four characters (Strider, Firebrand, Ghost Rider, Hawkeye) we have officially revealed. As for the other eight additional characters, we will have a ton of info, videos, screens and playable code in the coming months. Stay tuned!"

Capcom is really trying to screw everyone!!!!! that was such a cheap shot by not adding all those new characters to the first CvsM3. How can you have a 40 character roster on MvsC2 then turn around and have 20 that pissed me off
Ok, why in the righteous f**k are they putting an obscure character like Rocket Raccoon in there? Why on earth couldn't they have used his slot for Blade? And maybe use Nova's slot for Cyclops or Gambit or...anybody else. Jeez.
Dr. Strange makes sense since Dormamu was there in the first place. Rockman and Dr Willy or Megaman X and Sigma is my vote to get in that roster if Capcom makes another poll from fans. Already happy just seeing Strider Hiryu make it but he's the only one from his series. How about adding Strider Hien or Meioh to balance it out?

I'm happy to see Phoenix Wright, but they seem to be avoiding the more popular characters like Mega Man, it just feels like they're going to milk this one with DLC...

Since there is still no news of Megaman or Venom dlc, we should push the article to include Nightcrawler (his teleport aerials would be insane) and all the megamen (ie. Megaman, Bass, Protoman)! Edit: Pheonix Wright....really? wtf. Instead of fighting he'll do what? sue you?
@nini200 lol wut? He definitely has it back, where are you getting your news son? The only change to orbs is that its gone from a lvl1 to a lvl3, strider is the only character in the game with 2 lvl3 supers.
i say bring all the chars from marvel vs. capcom 1 and 2 and add more chars with this one go above and beyond a simple 12 new ones.
Soooo very glad to see that Strider DOESNT have his ultra cheesy Ourboros special that EVERYBODY will spam if he does have it.
Thumbs up if you want BATMAN in this game (his level 3 would have Robin coming in and hugging the opponent to an ultra sqeeze)

you have to commend capcom for admitting their mistake and then praising fans for positive feedback. for me, i just hope they reveal that this will be DLC also.
God! They sure do pick the lousiest characters. NO BULLSEYE!!!!! NO Doc Ock! No Carnage! No Chao Legion characters. No characters from Devil's King. ARRRGH! I HATE YOU!!! >:(
Great. Well it's nice to see a more diverse line up of characters and some obscure ones. But I still want Mega-Man dammit! The are just not listening to the fans...
Bit of a lack of ladies in that list, isn't there? Twelve new characters and not one female? It's not like either the Marvel Universe or Capcom are short of suitable candidates. Ah well, at least Poison's snuck into SFxTK :P
I have to come up with a new squad and i think Vergil, Ghost Rider and a new chick or Nemesis will fit the bill.
It makes no sense that Venom is still not in this game. What the hell, man!? If Venom and Megaman aren't in the inevitable Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Arcade Edition; I just won't be buying this.

First off...Phoenix Wright = Awesome. Makes me maybe want to buy this game. The deal breaker is if Gambit is still out.

Capcom better stop messing around and put Daigo Kazama from rival schools... He would be an awesome addition and to me one of the coolest and baddest characters ever made! He would definitely whoop some a$$!
WOW WTF?!?!?! The 10 new characters in Ultimate are 10 x better then most of the new fighters in the first MVC3!!!!! I thought Nemesis was too Scary for MV3? I think this was planned since the begining. Frank West first I misread Frank Castle the punisher :(
Megaman Legends 3 was cancelled, I guess Capcom is ignoring Megaman for a while... I personally love seeing unique characters who arnt supposed to be fighting be in this game because it shows creativity. Frank west was a suprising awesome addition in Tatsunoko Vs Capcom and one of the lost characters from that game was Phoenix Wright suprisingly(seriously, he even got an artwork). Seeing these guys here would be awesome with the more unique and creative characters like MODOK,Amaterasu, tron and heck, Finally Dr. Strange gets in, considering 2 villains from his series got in already
@sianirudh94 I assume they're referring to the hype and characters which seem to have had a positive response, Nemesis and Ghost Rider in particular. The concept however hasn't proven popular, especially if it's not being released as DLC for those who bought the original copy. The lack of Venom, Carnage and Mega Man is another bone of contention for some fans.
hawkeye's finisher with ant man is pretty damn cool. rocket racoon= the new b.b. hood and so help me god he better have groot as a lvl 3 finish! nova= the new rouge. iron fist= the new jin. where is dan and squirrell girl???
