The Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 delayed
Legal dispute with Namco Bandai, need for polish cited as reasons for CD Projekt Red pushing PC role-playing game's console debut to early next year.
Xbox 360 fans eager to get their hands on The Witcher 2 will need to conjure up some extra patience. CD Projekt Red today announced that the console port of the critically acclaimed PC role-playing game has been delayed into the first quarter of 2012.
As to the cause of the delay, CD Projekt Red gave two reasons. First, the developer said it was making some improvements to the console version of the game and the delay will allow more time for "expanding and polishing certain elements of the gameplay." Second, the postponement gives the studio more time to resolve its current legal quarrel with Namco Bandai regarding international distribution rights for the Xbox 360 version of the game. (Namco Bandai distributed the PC version, but THQ was announced as handling Witcher 2 for the Xbox 360.)
The Witcher 2 is a direct sequel to the events of the original and picks back up with professional monster slayer Geralt following a failed assassination of Temerian royalty. Geralt then sets out on a quest to track down the king's attempted killers, while also continuing to pursue those responsible for murdering other witchers. The game features a branching storyline and allows players to develop Geralt to their tastes, upgrading his magical abilities, alchemy skills, or combat proficiency as they see fit.
