QuakeCon 2012 rumbles August 2-5

Free public gaming expo hits Dallas, Texas, in early August; upcoming Bethesda titles on hand.

Gamers eager to book flights and reserve hotel rooms for QuakeCon 2012 now have the official green light, as event organizer Bethesda Softworks today announced that the show will descend upon Dallas, Texas, August 2-5, 2012.

The show is free and open to the public and will take place at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas, Texas. Keeping with its yearly tradition, QuakeCon 2012 will host a large-scale bring-your-own-computer (BYOC) LAN party, which has become North America's largest such gathering.

Other details concerning the show are thin. However, gamers can expect to get their hands on upcoming titles from Bethesda Softworks and sister studio id Software during the convention. Specific games were not mentioned, but projects in development at Bethesda and id include Prey 2, Dishonered, and Doom 4.

Panel discussions at last year's QuakeCon included chats about first-person shooter games from employees of Respawn Entertainment and id Software, as well as talks of origin stories from Arkane and Insomniac Games.

i hope that Doom 4 won't suffer the same fate as RAGE being multi-platform and not being specifically designed for PCs. the mega texturing method isn't as good in practice as in theory so i hope that John Carmack has something else up his sleeve for Doom 4.

That's kinda interesting. I cannot believe that people actually bring a desktop gaming computer with them. For a LAN gaming session. It is not so bad if you live in Dallas, But if your from Boston, New York, Ohio, California, or even Montreal or Toronto. Full size PS set-ups are not quite "portable" But I guess some people would lug a PC all the way from Seattle to Texas. Great the this conference is free. Should I be in Texas in the summer it is worth a look.

We'd better be getting SOMETHING for Doom 4. Even if it's just concept art showing off some of the environments or characters. I will be happy with anything, since i love Doom so much

I've been hearing good things about Dishonored, I hope they have some info.

Either way, I am looking forward to the Street Fighter/ Fighting game tournament. Hopefully SFxT drops for PC before then!
