New 4G iPad revealed

lol @ all the sheep buying overpriced apple products XD

i have an iphone 4s and i was suprised that there where 50 times as many good games as there are on the android marketplace, and some fairly deep one's as well, dont get me wrong a controller or keyboard is always better but there alot of good games for the IOS. I have a ps3,360, and a gaming pc but its nice sometimes to have something light you can carry easy like a tablet.

What is everyone's problem with Apple producing a new and improved model every year? Company's make new models of cars and televisions and computers and refrigerators every year, that doesn't mean you need to go out and buy one every year! Do you need to keep up with Toyota or Frigidaire? Nobody is milking anybody. Buy one or don't buy one, but don't be mad because they make them.

Now that's how you milk a customer. Release the same product every year with only slight improvements so that people will keep buying it. I learned my lesson.I had iphone 3g,3gs and 4. I finally gave up realizing that I just can't keep up with apple.What's the point in buying a new iphone or ipad because you know it's just gonna be outdated next year.Next thing you know there will be a new iphone or ipad every month.

Of course they insulted another product, it's a nine hundred dollar screen with aging technology in it. The Xbox might have less memory, but the processor is more powerful. Which means Capps doesn't know what he's talking about, if it wasn't apparent from the "Apple is redefining gaming" comment. The only thing about the iPad that "redefines" gaming is that gamers with actual gaming systems stop arguing with each other to hate on crap like this. I don't own an Xbox, but I'd buy ten of them before I'd even touch an Apple product, because it plays games instead of shovelware and they don't release a new one every three days.

well the new i pad may be powerful with a brilliant display but it will still be outdated in a year , also comparing it to an xbox 360. will have to wait and see how "angry bird 2" compares to "halo 4". i have had enough. cant keep upgrading every year. selling my old tab but going to wait only for razor fiona. wife has ipad2 but not going to get her ipad 3 . most of its processing will be used for supporting the resolution.doesnt really do any thing else. thought they would bring a game changer. was confused between this and the vita but now i am sure where my money will go...and its not the new ipad. my advice when buying apple....always skip 2 generations before buying again.

Developers are still in a learning curve on tablet computers and their weaknesses and their advantages. As a gamer Apple is frustrating to me because their platform is so closed. It is brilliant from a business perspective as Apple gets fat cuts on everything from music to text books to games. Imagine where Microsoft would be if they got 20% of all PC software sales! Microsoft does make money from Xbox licenses but nothing like what Apple banks. I have an ipad but the real kick in the nads by Apple is they have blocked Onlive simply because it is a direct threat against their app store. I've used onlive and while it certainly doesn't replace a gaming PC it is still very playable and great for doing demos. On tablets however Onlive could be a game changer for how games are deployed. Yet now you can only play Onlive on android tablets because Apple is determined to get their 20-30% cut (or whatever it is) for every single app I buy from them. Apple will never let gamers download Onlive and play all the games I want without giving Apple a penny. And that does make me sad.

They're still considering it a gaming machine yet there are STILL no buttons. Touchscreen only hasn't been kind to the games so far.

i really think that implementing the controls of the GBA wouldn't be to hard on an ipod/phone and would greatly increase its value as a gaming device.

@Mariner32 That discussion came up then the first iPad was released and it turns out there is a market for devices such as tablet. It's not like it's replacing a laptop/netbook, it's more of a new kind of way to consume (and in certain aspects create) media. I think the reason they sell well is because of their simplicity. The focus is on the content and not so much about the device itself. It also in many ways feel more natural (for most people) to scroll around and interact with a device using touch and gestures. Of course there's still need for computers such as laptops in many cases, but like I said, the tablets aren't really meant to replace computers in all cases (they're more like an extension), but in some they do. @Shimazuxi I'd say it depends on the game. Some games turn out very well using touch controls and others don't. Obviously there are people who like to game on their touch devices, there's a lot of games out there for iOS and more is coming all the time. "You can only use one app at a time." Well, that goes for a desktop OS too. ;) You can only interact with one application at a time. You can only have one app covering the screen at one time in iOS, but it's pretty easy to switch between open apps, especially on the iPad with a "four-finger-swipe" gesture. @ucell Most people here on Gamespot seem to have a hard time understanding not all gamers are "pro" gamers.Try to think out of your own box. There's a lot of people who enjoy playing on their phones. It's a device you often have at hand and it's easy to swap back and forth between a game and things such as the web browser or email. I can fully understand why you prefer a PSP with buttons but to not see there are other sides of gaming is to be a bit narrow-minded in my opinion.

I would get this but i plan on getting the iphone 5 insted.

Well it's about damn time that they implement 4G support!

Until developers do anything amazing with the new gen ipad, this would only be recommended for someone who never owned a ipad and wanted to enter the world of iOS devices. Till then, more buttons wouldn't hurt.

My only question is was there really something so wrong with the iPad 2 that an update was necessary? Was there really anything wrong with the iPad to necessitate and iPad 2 for that matter? Perhaps I'm simply blind to the evolution of technology but, to me, this is nothing more than glorified netbook without a proper keyboard. It exists for the convenience of portability, not to be a full-on PC in your lap. It doesn't need a quad-core processor, 1080p video capability and a 2048x1536 display. The next question of course would be what kind of abysmal battery life can we expect from this powerhouse? ...then again I also think that phones don't need to do anything more than make calls and send text messages...

It doesn't matter, it lacks the power to run multiple things. You can only use one app at a time. That+100% Touch screen controls.... it's not for gaming. I have an ipad, granted it's 2 not 3, I can still tell you it's not geared for gaming lol...

Ofcourse it's more powerful than an xbox. Everything is.

Seriously...I don't and won't even bother playing $4 or $5 games lasting for so much as 5 minutes on touchscreen. I prefer playing $40 games on my PSP with BUTTONS for 7 hours or above. Smartphone gaming can't compete with handheld gaming OR console gaming. We should let 'em know by not buying iOS games.

what? more powerful than the xbox360? will apple be the 4th of the big 3 in the gaming industry? i dont think the ipad has a big lifespan as to those of console types which is like 10 years or so for another model console

iPad's are expanded smart phones. I want a portable PC. So I'll be waiting for the Win 8 tablet because they have an actual OS with full functionality.

I wish they would get their facts straight, its a Dual core processor with a quad core graphics processor, theres a large difference. The Asus Transformer Prime has a quad core processor and a 12 core graphics processor, so don't get too excited about this people. It does the same old stuff as the iPad 2, not worth the added money

Well at that price, I would certainly hope they can keep up with several year old gaming hardware...though I still kinda doubt it. I guess some people are hardcore phone/tablet gamers?? I've tried playing games on tablets, either boring or frustrating, or both. As far as phones go, if it's not angry birds or something similar, no thanks. This is like 3D gaming all over again, market execs who know nothing about what gamers want are trying to force tablet gaming into the gaming market, and companies like nintendo are buying into it with their dumb gimmicky tablet controller...what happened to sitting in front of the tv, on your comfy couch, holding a controller?

Until they develop a controller or keyboard and mouse it's not going to be a good gaming device sadly. A graphical powerhouse that is very limited by it's control method is capable of some impressive visuals but no deep interaction with said visuals. We need more control than tapping on the screen. I was quite impressed by the new Ipad initially, the specs and power available seems like it's just what it needed but for gaming it till won't hit the bar until it gets a controller or keyboard / mouse.

hey a question im buying my first ipad, should i go for the ipad 2 or for this? is just a 100 bucks difference but we so few new features i have my doubts if it is actually worth it...

@xhawk27 These are just statistics and basic system possibilites. You do not rely on information like that. So what? PSP is weaker than most Smartphones. I've yet to see a Smartphone capable of Playing Peace Walker. iPad is not a Gaming platform only, alot of it's resources go to other medias.

OMG YOU MADE SOMETHING MORE POWERFUL THAN A SYSTEM FROM 2005! THATS REALLY!..... not impressive in any, way shape, or form. Like, at all. Apple is a pisspoor company with pisspoor products that are a hindrance on the technological world. The only reason its more powerful than a 360 (which was a huge advance in gaming technology back in '05) is because Microsoft aren't big enough d*cks to make a new model of their system every 9 months. Wait for the new generation of consoles and the iPad 16 or whatever it gets to by next year will look worse than it does now.

And still somehow Apple will manage to make it lag on the most basic of applications. Plus I think that Apple should fix in the Ipad, Iphone and Ipod is battery life. Why do you have to recharge the thing every night and only get a few hours before it runs out of charge?

I seriously doubt Apple's intelligence at this point, who cares if it has a quad core CPU, or a million more pixels than a Full HD TV. Gimmicks like that only distract from the reality, there's no innovation at all! It's a sad attempt to get people who bought previous iPad versions to buy the new one too. It looks sharper and is faster, who cares, most people use it for webbrowsing and some casual gaming, neither require those things. If you really want to spend $829 on processing power and pixels you don't need, you're an idiot... or wealthy. Also Apple stating that the A5X is 4 times more powerful than the Tegra3, is something I seriously doubt and so does Nvidia, and something Apple has provided no proof of whatsoever. A tablet isn't a tool for a hardcore gamer. I can't imagine playing Battlefield 3 or MW3 on a tablet.

I don't care how powerful the thing is. It's not built for gaming. You shouldn't have to touch animated buttons on the screen, if they want to make something for gaming give it actual buttons. With real buttons you get pressure, friction and feedback. Tapping and rubbing a screen you get greasy fingerprints.. that's about it :? I'm not hating on the ipad, I think they're great. But they're more useful for surfing the web and watching movies.. not playing games.

its quite sad how manufactures keep adding improvements bit by bit.yeah its difficult to satisfy human wants.but come to think of it it brings about envy.those with i pad 1 envy those with i pad 2 and now they will in turn envy those with ipad 3.goes on and on fom there.its crazy!

How couldn't Sony realise that they can redefine gaming by releasing the PS4 only, gasp, it sports 257MB RAM instead of 256.

LunchSackSal your studies ? what a joke I can easily afford the most expensive model in one days work . What university did you do this study lol etc , who did you survey. People who don?t like it are actually more factual and functional based decisions . I don?t like it as it hasn?t really improved over the first model besides slight power increases . It could have made simple low cost improvements like expanded memory , usb ports , hdmi out put with out the apple cable , SD card reader etc . I?m not blinded by the mass market and media and will actually look at the specs and price of a item instead of paying for a name and following the sheep as its the in thing .

In my experience I have noticed a definite monetary division between the like and dislike of the Ipad. From my studies, in a normally adjusted male.. it goes like this. Can NOT afford Ipad = I HATE IT ..... Can NOT afford Ipad, Dont want it = still interested, curious what it does.......CAN afford Ipad, but dont want it = Still Interested
