Warner Bros. confirms characters and objects from Mario and Zelda franchises will be featured in upcoming Wii U game, but not PC or 3DS iterations.
Maxwell will be joined by a Mario in Wii U launch title Scribblenauts Unlimited. The game will feature characters and objects from the Mario and Legend of Zelda franchises, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced today.
An image accompanying the announcement today (at right) confirms Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Link, Epona, and Zelda will be summonable in the game. Altogether, Warner Bros. said there will be "dozens" of Nintendo characters and items in Scribblenauts Unlimited.
Scribblenauts Unlimited is also coming to the 3DS and PC in November, but the Nintendo characters and items will not appear in those versions. The game was developed by 5th Cell and its core mechanics remain intact from past games. Players control a hero named Maxwell and are tasked with collecting Starites by utilizing objects they create.

Personally wish that Fifth Cell would put Valve stuff in the PC version, which necessarily doesn't have to include TF2!

the PC version has the Object Creator; plus on the Steam Workshop people have already made Mario and Luigi. It's not as nice and official looking; but it's been done.
Wish 5th Cell would have worked with Valve a little bit more; like put TF2 or Half-Life characters in the game for the PC version.

I was wondering when this would finally happen. But now that Scribblenauts isn't Nintendo Exculsive, I guess they needed something to persuade. And as all the others ask "Why aren't they on 3DS?" Surely game memory isn't the problem?
I have no problem with them making the Nintendo characters exclusive to the Wii U. It's their choice and not a big deal. In my opinion, the exclusive characters doesn't make or break the game.
1 Like It's disappointing that Nintendo is placing restrictions on which platforms these characters and items will appear on just so they can sell more Wii U consoles on launch day...it's not even available for the 3DS...really Nintendo?! They're resorting to these underhanded tactics just to get people to buy their new console and this game. I was planning on getting this game for the PC, but I have to say I'm slightly disappointed by this news. This tells me that these guys will probably do what most devs do these days, and pour all of their resources/money into making the perfect Wii U version of this game, while the other versions will be lousy ports that aren't built for either platform. Scribblenauts Unlimited looks like a very promising game on the Wii U, it honestly looks like one of the best titles coming out for that system in the next few months, but I'd be very cautious to get the PC and 3DS versions right about now, especially if you're looking to play the full experience as it was meant to be played.
nintendo...if you remake all your zeldas and metroids in hd, maybe your relaunch of your new console will be a success.screw motion controllers,they suck...just want to play the classics without all the haze. even paper mario was kool..your wii sucked hopefully your wii u will get me excited enough to have 3 consoles and a pc again.

Two: Most people think oppositely, saying Nintendo is milking it's Icons and are boring/uncreative. Others say that all remakes Nintendo has done (Ocarina of Time 3D, Star Fox 3D) was just Nintendo begging for more money. So, it's mostly public opinion keeping Nintendo from doing what you so much want. It's not Nintendo's fault.
everybodies got their own opinion i guess and im hoping someone from nintendo reads my post and does something about it..ps3 made lots of money on remastered old ps2 games why not nintendo...hell if the game is fun milk it for what its worth...i will buy it and so will many others
@GunBladeHero That was my question also, especially considering that I think Scribblenauts is perfect for gaming on-the-go.
Everyone is designed to look to be a part of the game, but it would be incredibly odd to see Yoshi and Epona without a snout, and could you imagine Mario and Luigi with their 'staches without their bulbous noses?
better pray nintendo don't take over the world.

Now I can realize my dream of having Mario riding a rocket-propelled toaster through space lassoing Santa Claus off a flying Cthulhu over Mt. Everest.
@UnwantedSpam I was worried that I would have to use the object editor to make a Mario, but here it is, pre-made and ready to go! This Scribblenauts...shall be epic. I'm going to make a Pikachu. (It can shoot lightning!)
Sweet! But the main thing I really want to be able to create in this is Slenderman. There were TONS of urban-legend and mythology-based creatures in the first two, so why not Slendy? And if he somehow does awesomely make it in, he should have unique AI mechanics, like standing straight and still when you're looking at him, but when you turn away he changes to a stalking position and will normally just follow behind you, but if you happen to be moving fast enough he'll resort to teleportation. Other AI's should be made to not flee or become scared as he's stalking you, to represent that only his victim can see him. Oh, and he should be attracted to paper and money, and if you directly approach him with cash in hand and give it to him he'll become friendly instead of hostile (for the lulz). If you think that sounds too complicated for only one summonable object, you should look at the Scribblenauts Wikia. Some AI are programmed so accurately to model their source material it's crazy; Vampires fear mirrors and wooden stakes and are attracted to blood and coffins; Werewolves fear silver and the sun (being exposed to it transforms them back into a human) and are attracted to and hostile towards Little Red Riding Hood; Witches are afraid of water (Wizard of Oz reference) and are attracted to wands (they pick them up if unarmed), cauldrons, spellbooks (same thing), and frogs, which they eat; and Bears are attracted to and hostile towards blonde-haired girls and will also eat oatmeal/porridge (Goldie Locks references). An urban legend you can summon is The Mothman, who is hilariously afraid of bug-zappers and fly swatters, and attracted to things like flashlights, lamps, lanterns, etc. Hopefully this entry will improve upon AI reactions even further!

So long as they're doing this, I'd love to see some obscure stuff in there, like things from Nintendo's early days.
@Flint247 really? go look for Uncharted Waters (1 and 2) from KOEI; both of those games had PC ports as well ports to other consoles. ;)
and I am pretty sure that is one of the many example... I do not have them all in my head.
@Flint247 Yeah, both Uncharted Water games that I played (one for the NES and the second for the SNES) are really cool.... well at least I enjoy them. I do not know if KOEI still has rights over the game, but I know sometime ago there was an Uncharted Waters Online, but for some reason I never played. Maybe it was because I was not into MMOs at that time.
If you like (J)RPGs, exploration (the entire Earth), economics, administration, sea batles, drama lol, I think you will like this titles. ;)
I think the PC versions are now free, if I am not mistaken on sites that contain old-ware, but I could be wrong. The console version is probably best to get an emulator and try it, or just watch let's play on Youtube.
@Big_Pecks That would be actually interesting... I am not into Pokemon, but I have to say that it would be cool if they let the user summon any of Pokemon.
@hitman047m4 @Big_Pecks I think we Object Editor gives enough creativity to make about any Pokemon that exists. Especially the new ones. Chandelure = Living, Floating, fire-shooting, evil chandelier.
