The Lego Group reveals new sales statistics for block-style platforming games based on popular sci-fi universe; contract extended through 2022 with Lucasfilm Ltd.

The Force is strong with The Lego Group. Today, the popular toymaker announced that sales of the four Lego Star Wars titles have reached more than 30 million units life-to-date.

In addition to revealing the new sales milestone for Lego Star Wars, The Lego Group announced today that it had entered into a new licensing deal with Lucasfilm Ltd. for an additional 10 years. It was not mentioned if a new Lego Star Wars game was in development as part of the contract extension.

The Lego Group first picked up the rights to the Star Wars franchise from Lucasfilm Ltd. in 1999, with the initial Lego Star Wars game--Lego Star Wars: The Video Game--released in 2005.

Following that were 2006's Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, 2007's Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, and 2011's Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars.

Lego Star Wars 1 and 2 were terrific, as was Lego Batman. I didn't like Lego Indiana Jones or Harry Potter or Star Wars 3, they changed the formula too much, and it wasn't as easy to play. Hope they smarten up.

I'm with SolidTY, would love to see more franchises done in lrgo, special Marvel... If they ported the universe of Marvel to lego though, then Magneto would instantly become the most useless Mutant ever.

The Lego games formula still works for me, :-)

I've had fun with all the Lego games I have played. Looking forward to Batman 2 and the first Lord of the Rings game (The toys have been confirmed so we know a game will follow)

Ya know with the success of online gaming on modern consoles I'm surprised they haven't tried making another X-Wing game yet... I think it would be a big hit especially if they went nuts with it and allowed players to customize and build their own starfighter. I'm tired of hearing how the industry is so risk averse yet we keep getting these crappy new IP's like Brink and Gotham City Impostors. if the industry was that risk averse those games never would have been made, Gears Of War never would have been made....Arkahm City never would have been made..... IDK...I'm just frustrated because it seemed like KOTOR was awesome and KOTOR II was good but unfinished but they could have done a third one, They could have gotten away with another Jedi Academy and another Republic Commando and Battlefront 3, in fact people have been asking for Battlefront 3 for years but all we got was The Force Unleashed and Lego Star Wars III The Clone Wars......

Guess we won't be getting any more good star wars games until 2022... The lego games are just that - lego games. What happened to X-wing, X-wing vs. Tie Fighter, X-wing alliance? What happened to Republic Commando? What about Dark Forces and Kyle Katarn? What happened to all those good star wars games that weren't about little lego men? Bring back the real star wars games.

Star Wars : The Complete Saga was and still is the best of all the lego games..most content, best character roster, most levels, best main-hub (still love starting random bar fights),easiest to recognize story/levels.Lego Batman felt like the black sheep of the series as it had no movie source material at all (meaning the series relied solely on lego's ''original'' yet slightly weaker comedy).I always thought Lord of the Rings would make an excellent source material...3 movies so far..a new one coming out to build up hype for the game..well known thus easy to make jokes off of,great soundtrack (and recognizable),easily recognizable characters, easy combat to transition into lego form, etc. While I'm not normally a fan of hd re-released I wouldn't mind seeing ''The Complete Saga'' have a remastering with hd,new levels, more characters, etc. (especially for 3ds since Lego Clone Wars was extremely disappointing on the 3ds).

@Venatorcruiser : I always thought Jurassic Park would make a good match..considering there are 3..you could even have the main hub in the park (the end fight scene took place there) for the lego hub!

Good for Traveller's Tales. They produce an enjoyable product, and deserve the recognition. Personally, The Star Wars series is my least favorite of the Lego games, and I agree with SolidTy. I hope TT explores other licensing options, or even creates an original game within the Lego universe.

The series deserves these numbers

What's funny is the Lego Star Wars games are actually the best Star Wars games to come out in the last 7 years. Star Wars games have been lacking for a long time now.

A new star wars trilogy from George Lucas, focusing on the aftermath of the original trilogy. Who would be surprised honestly?

@venatorcruiser you're in luck, at E3 last year Nintendo announced an open world Lego game that will launch on the Wii U. It's called Lego city stories. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3GGh5PDPlw&feature=BFa&list=FL8eSk12mS8yLftoyqb_GyfQ&lf=mh_lolz

Darth_Nater307 50 pts

I bet you anything that next year they'll be making a Lego Star Wars: The Clone Wars II.

Venatorcruiser 21 pts

Now if they would just include Move support on the PS3 version.

pokecharm 72 pts

I can't say why, but I've never given these games a chance, but they seem to be very popular and do well :)

Slap Lego or Star Wars on something and it means money. Due to our kids playing the Lego series I have to say they are pretty fun games (and easy games to bump your gamer score)

nintendoboy16 53 pts

I love the first two games on GameCube, so this is good news. I even like LEGO Indiana Jones and Harry Potter.

Happy news. These games are always fun.
