Kojima showing off Fox Engine at GDC

Metal Gear designer to give in-depth look at new game engine and explain development process of Ground Zeroes next month.

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima will give a public demo of the Fox Engine next month at the 2013 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, California. The developer showed off the technology to members of the media in August, though filming was prohibited.

The industry veteran and staff from Kojima Productions will discuss the development process of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes during the talk, showing off the Fox Engine to the public for the first time in the process. Those in attendance will get an overview of topics like asset creation and rendering techniques for the new engine.

Joining Kojima at the talk--titled Photorealism Through the Eyes of a FOX: The Core of Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes--will be Ground Zeroes art director Hideki Sasaki, lighting artist Masayuki Suzuki, and technical director Junji Tago.

A trailer for a mysterious project called The Phantom Pain was shown during the Video Game Awards in December, though it has been speculated that this game may in fact be an elaborate tease for Metal Gear Solid 5.

PC Gamers: No dev really likes to develop for you guys. Simply because the piracy rate is over 90%

@Erzcn24 wrong you can do the same for console ,  the problem is that you need to crack the console to play pirated games and when you do rest assure you will not be able to go on line , that is different for PC , but still both can be pirated

All I'm seeing are millions:

Oh and Portal 2 and The Witcher 2 outsold the 360 versions (and PS3 in the case of Portal 2) on PC.

Piracy is present on all platforms.

The Witcher series sold 5 million units, only 600,000 of those went to the 360.

Skyrim sold over 3 million.

Xcom enemy unkown sold over 300,000 units on PC while on both consoles combined it only managed 600,000.

Kickstarter proved that both Pc gamers pay for their games, in advance if they have to, and many devs prefer developing on PC without restraints.

Want to know about real piracy and modding? Ps3iso.com, 360iso.com, tortuga-cove.com, Ps3crunch.net.

If more people rob 7/11 stores than they rob Wallmarts then does that make it ok? Same logic applies.People claim piracy is rampant on PC, yet nearly every dev is still putting their games on Steam, even Ubisoft which claimed a 90% piracy claim of it's games, why bother if there is no profit?

@MAD_AI @Ladiesman17 @Erzcn24 Not many modern games sell well on the PC, unless it has Valve, Diablo or Maxis attached to it.  People pay the money to buy the hardware and then pirate the software.  Piracy is terrible for the PC.

Funny how this is listed as coming to PC, and funny how Aliens Colonial Marines was torrented on TPB 5 days before release date and the PC version.

@Erzcn24  console owners can still pirate games at the same rate as pc gamers, piracy is unavoidable. It would be better if they didn't produce any games at all.

I am watching a promo for MG right now on TV and I just realized Kojima made the first MG and that was 25+ years ago and he barely looks 25. This means he has to be at least 45 unless he was making top notch games when he was 17 or 18. I think he's going to live to be 120 at least. I also find it fascinating that Japan has the most people that live 100+ years yet their population isn't all that big.

@tightwad34 The Asians are definitely a more evolved form of humans.

tightwad34

@sakajo Could be so. I like to think they just take better care of themselves than the rest of us.

tightwad34

@sakajo They do have a very low obesity rate, especially compared to America thus less heart problems. They may have nice hair, but it's always the same color. I gotta say Japan is one of the places I would like to visit.

@tightwad34 @sakajo Think about it. Theyre smarter, theyre much less susceptible to cardiac problems like heart disease, theyre smaller, so became less reliant on physical stature to survive before us, and they have nice hair

@tightwad34 120+ million is quite a lot of people for such a small country

tightwad34
tightwad34

@Oz0n3_holepunch Man, I thought it was less than half of that. I haven't seen any actual numbers for that in a long time. It's still impressive to have that many people living past 100.

Is there any sort of release window for Ground Zeros? I did like MGS4, but thought it was a bit overrated. Hate me all you want, it's just an opinion.

This game really makes me consider getting a PS4, die hard Metal Gear Fan, but also die hard Halo fan.. choices choices choices. If only money grew on trees.

@Ferg1213 The game will be released on current-gen platforms so there's no need to. That is if they don't decide to cancel it and make next-gen only. Here's hoping they don't do that.

@queuing_for_PS4 Maybe not the same engine but mostly the same storyline. MGS2 was basically MGS1 with a different lead character. And MGS4 borrowed some story and gameplay elements from MGS1. In fact a lot of gameplay elements. Now, don't get me wrong, I love the MGS series.

Skat0rzZzz
Skat0rzZzz

@Heshertonfist @queuing_for_PS4 Ugh... The storyline can't be the same from any angle. I mean it's a story-line. A long event that goes way back and ahead. MGS4 borrowing from MGS1? Dude, it's the very same developer

Skat0rzZzz
Skat0rzZzz

@Heshertonfist @Skat0rzZzz Oh that. Well mostly the bosses. There's an octopus, a raven, a wolf, a mantis and many others. So if that's what you mean, then yes, the games are alike in that way

Heshertonfist
Heshertonfist

@Skat0rzZzz No, that's not what I mean though. I mean things to specifically remind you of MGS1. Like the hand to hand combat at the end of MGS4. Even the controls are basically the same as the fight at the end of MGS1.

Skat0rzZzz
Skat0rzZzz

@Heshertonfist @Skat0rzZzz I've already mentioned that I've finished all of the titles, there's no need for me to google. It's completely obvious lvl 50+ to say that MGS4 "borrowed", like it's a bad idea. The whole series' gameplay is based on sneaking and all kinds of other stealthy shit. It's not borrowing, it's the way it is. Have a look at Splinter Cell 1-3, same gameplay, different story

Heshertonfist
Heshertonfist

@Skat0rzZzz I don't want to get into a whole nerdy argument about why and how they're similar, you can google it. A lot of moments from MGS4 was to remind you of MGS1.

Skat0rzZzz
Skat0rzZzz

@Heshertonfist @Skat0rzZzz I know it's your opinion. I've finished all of the existing MGS titles and I think you're talking about that moment where Snake is having a dream in a helicopter before reaching the good old Shadow Moses. But it's just a kinda sorta easter egg to give you some nostalgic elements from MGS1

Heshertonfist
Heshertonfist

@Skat0rzZzz I'm well aware that it's the same developer, and have you even played these games? Really though, that's not just me being a jerk, I'm really curious.

I kinda like MGS. Even though the controlls are how to say this. Not retarded. More like uberretarded. There are also totally absurd over the top moments that only certain type of ppl can handle. Im not saying its a bad series, only that I wonder how can ppl say things like MGS is a system seller or that it is a 10 out of 10 and keep a straight face.
