Infinity Ward working on Call of Duty 3, new IP
Job listing shows internal Activision studio already working on third WWII shooter, possibly for multiple next-gen consoles.
Call of Duty 2 won't hit the PC or Xbox 360 until this fall, but that isn't stopping Infinity Ward from starting work on its sequel--and an all-new game. The Activision-owned developer recently posted a job listing on its Web site for a "Senior Next-Gen Programmer (New IP and COD3)," indicating that it has already begun preproduction on Call of Duty 3 as well as an unnamed original intellectual property.
The job description gave further evidence that a third Call of Duty is in the works--and may likely be released for more than one next-generation console. "We are ramping up teams for upcoming Call of Duty titles as well as new IP," it read. The listing then said the ideal candidates would be "people who are interested in creating cutting edge games on both the PC and all of the new next-generation console platforms." (Emphasis added.)
The listing's last sentence implies that either Call of Duty 3 or the new mystery game will be released for the PlayStation 3 and possibly even the Nintendo Revolution as well as the Xbox 360. Currently, the Xbox 360 Call of Duty 2 is Infinity Ward's only announced next-generation console game.
However, while Call of Duty 3's existence is almost certainly confirmed by the Infinity Ward job listing, it has not been officially announced yet. Activision had also not responded to requests for comment as of press time.
