Ubisoft's squad-based shooter hitting Windows machines three weeks after console debut; constant Internet connection not required.
The future of Ghost Recon will arrive in June for PC players. The Windows version of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier will hit retail and digital distribution outlets on June 12, Ubisoft announced today.
Previously, the PC version of the upcoming squad-based shooter was only slated for sometime after the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 iterations arrive on May 22.
Ubisoft also noted today that a temporary Internet connection will be necessary for a onetime product registration through its Uplay service. After that, a broadband connection is not required, except for online modes.
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier gets its name from the Future Soldier programs being conducted by the US and its NATO allies. The initiative, currently part of the US Army's Brigade Combat Team Modernization Program, focuses on outfitting infantrymen with networked communications and high-tech equipment. The third-person shooter will have a cooperative mode, and its gameplay will focus on both stealth and heavy action.

@Thunderkakashi sorry if i dont tickle your fancy but your a moron. most people who pirate games still buy the retail version to support the devs. if not then their doing it out of spite of the devs and both those reasons dont correspond w/ your ignorant post
@linkman42807, @Johny_47, I totally disagree. The modern pc game's have massively better graphics than their console conterparts. the console has a set requirement for graphics and controls. PC's are much more involved. You have to realize that some pc graphics cards alone cost more than a standard xbox or playstation. That's not even taking the cost of the pc itself into consideration. For this reason the developers have to spend more time in preparing the pc games for release. Also, years ago this game was originally made for pc only. the port is considered to be consoles. I've been playing the ghost recon online beta for pc for the past few months and it's totally awesome. the covering system and ability to upgrade is so realistic. Based on what I'm seeing, the future solder game will have even more options then the online version. i can't wait to play it. Because the consoles are mush less expensive then the standard gaming PC, more people can afford them; thus more games focus on console ports. It all has to do with the market share (money), not the game quality.
@Johny_47 The reason for PC games coming out after console versions (on some occasions) is because games are developed for the consoles FIRST. The PC version is then just a port of the console version with some (moderately) better graphics thrown on. Though I wish separate, more refined versions were made for each platform, companies would be spending way too much time and money to develop two versions at the same time just to have the same release date.

I don't get why the PC versions of games always release later, isn't fair to PC players in my opinion. If it's a really good looking game like for example GTA V - and I know it'll happen with that - then PC players shouldn't have to wait longer, doesn't help how developers always release crappy teaser trailers about a year or more before something is released. I like how Ubisoft have stopped with that terrible constant internet connection thing though, I hated that with Prince of Persia Forgotten Sands and Splinter Cell Conviction.
By pirating you're stealing, and you can't complain about anything. Pirates are scum that are too poor to afford games. If you can't afford them don't play them, nobody forced you to play games, maybe go study instead it doesn't cost anything
Actually in some places PC games are not available for sale, and paypal and steam dont operate so those gamers can only pirate. I use a friend who lives abroad to bring me original games. So its the gaming industries fault if you dont provide the people the games they are going to find a way to play them @Thunderkakashi
true, in the city i live in more than 95% of games on sell in retail stores are pirated games. I actually asked some stores to order some games for me but they never do. Most games I buy are from asking friends to get them for me when they visit the US for holidays

Product has to be activated online on first launch and will require a permanent connection similar to the "From Dust" lie of only an initial activation. After that, the game will be built around these online features that lock progression and important features like "Anno 2070" which is only fully functional with a permanent connection. - - - - - Nice try UbiSoft, but please don't insult us with your next news announcement. Also it could just be an april fools joke. Still not buying your products unless you remove the DRM, launcher and everything around it from existing titles too. Please UbiSoft, prove me wrong and show me that you finally started to grow a brain and realised that your DRM only hurts your customers and release games as they are meant to be played.
Privacy is probably a factor in why some of these PC versions of games are being withheld until weeks or days later. Probably to deter some people from pirating, and instead buying the game in order to play it earlier. Then again, that's probably what it could be.
I'm always happy when another war based fps comes out but I'm also nearly always disappointed that the graphics hardly ever seem to improve much which is confirmed by the fact that these games still play on quite old hardware,wheres the ambition for the future graphics to amaze and Delight us !!!!
Ubisoft doesn't exactly have a good history of keeping their promises, especially to PC gamers. I'll be skeptical until this game actually comes out.
@aj_marquez i see that, that's fantastic. the pc version of GRAW2 was fps as well. But everyone knows that the Ghost Recon games are meant to played TPS like they are on consoles. My main point was the fact that we do not need any more FPS' shoved down our throats. Sorry I'm not retracting my previous statement.
So getting this for PC. TY UBI for doing the PC right for once. Also, make sure to release the DLC and have it run on Steam so it is easier to find friends and what not.

I spoke to someone on youtube who is in the beta and he said that the cloaking only lasts about 8-10 seconds and takes 3 minutes to recharge, which is good, if anyone was wondering if cloaking would be abused like it was in Crysis 2...glad it won't be.
I think I'll past on Call Of Ghost: EXTREME CLOAKING! I remember when games used to actually be hard. Can't have that now though. God forbid people have to actually use their brains.
i hope that means it will be ALOT better in every way from graphics to gameplay with glitches sorted out AHHHHH who am i kidding i see a doggy console port on the way to PC, Again...... Really.........
The requirements are steep: 25 GB HHD Space GTX 460 or Radeon 5850 Recommended Phenom II 4 or Intel Equivalent... Maybe now PC gamers won't whine that they have an inferior product - pretty sure the consoles can't run the above settings. PC gamers, at least those with GTX 460 will be happy (and probably those with like the 590 or 680 will be demanding better.... LOL)
@tomb875 These specifications are not usually spot on... don't know why... i can run almost any game released this year from medium to high graphics with AA off... My PC isn't at all powerful... Dual core Intel on 3.4 GHZ, 4GB DDR2 800MHZ(old motherboard), and an Nvidia 9600GT. Nothing special. To be honest it could be the case like with GTA IV. Not at all optimized. If you rewrote the settings a bit, which took a lot of nerve, it ran fantastically. But on release day I couldn't play it normally. So we'll see.

Three weeks delay are an insult to any PC gamer out there, and why is it a third person shooter? I suppose we shouldn't be surprised coming from a company that thinks 95% of us are pirates...
@Emperiox What you're saying could be true. I have no facts to support what I'm saying, and I'm just as disgusted with Ubisoft as you are, being a PC gamer myself. But I have to wonder though; why would Ubisoft continue to postpone its PC releases if they are clearly losing sales employing this tactic? They even delayed Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood's AND Revelation's PC release, which are both more campaign focused than Ghost Recon will likely be. I'm confident Ubisoft is aware of what does and doesn't boost their sales. They exist solely to make a profit after all.
Hey Ubisoft, are you sure you'll have enough time to successfully port the game to PC starting May 22, 2012? You did a great job with Splinter Cell conviction (30 FPS and less, 1280x720 highest resolution) as well as the last Rainbow Six Vegas 2 game which utilized only 2 cores (slow texture loading) and which has that awesome General Protection Fault message as well as the awesome multiplayer machine gun glitch which Ubisoft had 4 years to fix. The first Vegas game still has that glitch 5 and a half years later and it is unplayable on Windows 7 as well. I hope they learn this time.
I hope this game comes out bug free, and no other problems. The added time should allow for any problems to be corrected before shipping.
@Fiscaldeal Except you're forgetting the fact that it's a campaign oriented game. As someone with a PS3 + Xbox360 I can just rent this and pretty much get my money's worth for about $12. The reason I bring this up is because I'm sure I'm not the only PC gamer considering doing this. Ubisoft very clearly loses sales from such tactics. Frankly, as a PC gamer I'm insulted by the way that Ubisoft treats their PC fanbase.
Well any harassment to a legitimate buyer is deplorable, but this is a step towards less DRM. I hope this is a trend and not a one-time relent of DRM which will only hurt legitimate consumers.
I really really wish this game was out right now. I'm in a gaming void until Diablo III releases. How in the world will I find time to play this a mere 7 days after D3???
