ESRB: Eidos runs Gauntlet on DS

Ratings board lists new version of Midway's arcade dungeon crawler with Tomb Raider maker attached as publisher.
The Midway Games name is closely associated with a number of classic arcade franchises, such as Spy Hunter, Rampage, Defender, Joust, and Mortal Kombat. But perhaps none is more closely associated with the publisher than the four-player dungeon-crawling action game Gauntlet.
That made it all the more interesting earlier this week when the Entertainment Software Rating Board updated its online database with a listing for a new Gauntlet game on the Nintendo DS, one published by UK-based Eidos. Rated T for Teen, Eidos' Gauntlet was issued content descriptors for blood, fantasy violence, and alcohol references, a combination of warnings more in line with an update to the series along the lines of the Gauntlet Legends or Seven Sorrows games than the arcade originals (remakes of which have been rated E for Everyone).
When asked for comment, a Midway representative told GameSpot, "There is nothing that we can comment on at this time." Representatives from Eidos have not responded to GameSpot's inquiries. The ESRB has also removed the game from its online database, although a representative had not clarified the reasons for the removal as of press time.
If the listing proves accurate, it would not be the first time another publisher has handled Midway's seminal arcade action series. Atari published home versions of Gauntlet Legends, Microsoft and Sony handled the publishing on the Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network downloads in the series, and Destination Software released a Game Boy Advance combo cartridge that paired the original arcade game with another fondly remembered Midway franchise, Rampart.

I do hope it's like Legends/Dark Legacy - I admit that they aren't good games by most measures (if any), but nostalgia is a strong force for me. I loved playing Legends on Dreamcast with my brother, and my girl and I played a lot of Dark Legacy on Xbox when we first met - it'd be great to play it on our DSs now:)
Yay im glad to hear this i still own Gauntlet Dark Legacy for Ps2 it would be sweet if it came out for DS .. heres to hoping it will be good!

I hope the Gauntlet game is not like seven sorrows but more like Gauntlet Dark Legacy. Or Make it Gauntlet Dark Legacy for the DS!

Eidos makes terrible games
They should have rated it M for Mediocre. Legends was a decent game, but definately not the best. It's a fun party game but shoddy single player, here's hoping for something more out of the DS version. @ Lord_Artix - Do you perhaps have it download from XBL Arcade? Because it gives you updates based on what system you play the game. I have the old Dreamcast version so mine says ESRB: Eidos runs Gauntlet on DS - Dreamcast news at GameSpot.
maybe it will be good. maybe. gauntlet has a lot of nostalgia tied to it, thats probably its strongest point. they would have to deepen the experience for it to be worth buying after all these years.
I don't have a DS but for the love of god can they please not make any of the buttons be infinte health? Totally ruined the PSN version.
Gauntlet Legends rules!
I wouldve prefered a Dark legacy update for the 360, but Ill take what i can get.
I hope there will be a good amount of characters to choose from. I especially hope for the return of the Sorceress, and Dark Legacy gameplay.

I'd love to see a new Gauntlet for the 360 or PS3 as long as it's something close to what Dark Legacy was and nothing like Seven Sorrows was.

In all honesty, with the track records that Eidos and Midway hold (and don't forget all the bull$h!t that they put John Romero through with Seven Sorrows)...who honestly cares if Gauntlet is coming to the DS?!

Did I miss something? The top of my Browser states: "ESRB: Eidos runs Gauntlet on DS - Xbox 360 News at Gamespot" Last time I checked the DS was anything but the 360, let's get our systems straight Gamespot.
As long as the update the graphics and sounds. The Xbox version was a lousy port all around.

Remake Legends, or Dark Legacy for Live that'd be great. Make sure to do the 64 version of Legends though, I've seen that it has more content than either of the other two ports (Dreamcast and Playstation) although the Dreamcast version did have the characters from Dark Legacy lol.
I hope it haS Online Multiplayer!
Any new Gauntlet game would be cool.
I would love this game to come out for DS! Hopefully it has single cart multiplayer :p
