Dragon Quest X landing on Wii and Wii U in 2012

I want this on ps3 :( ....oh well,i guess i'll play it on the Wii since there is no way that i'll buy the Wii U.

Count me out if there's an online fee attached. Plus I'm not too thrilled about having to play this on Wii. Poor platform choice SE.

@grack21 and @thereandback21 thank you! I hope fees don't reach our shores though. Outside of Japan a fee would definitely make the game flop.

if theres a pay to play system going (other then the intial purchase of course) im out, there are other MMOs i have my eye on at the moment, one being free to play after purchase.

The Dragon Warrior/Quest franchise has long been my favorite game franchise. Ever since I played DW1-4 on the NES, I have eagerly awaited every DQ game that has been released in NA. I can't believe I'm saying this...but I'm not eagerly awaiting DQX. I'm actually very saddened and disheartened in the direction it looks like they are taking my beloved franchise.

@ Oni_Taedo : Amen to that! :P The very ideas of ds and wii were labeled as ''gimmicks'' yet Sony having a ps3 extension almost identical in use isn't and some of (imo) the most gimmicky features possible on the vita (like tilting vita forward to duck and the very idea of a back touch pad) are considered fine if not innovation.

'' there is all this hysteria and complaining (not necessarily all by you but in general) over one sentence that doesn't even necessarily confirm that this is an mmo...only people speculating that is what it means.People are acting like SE went ahead and said that it was a mmo when they never said the like,only listed 2 games that could possibly have other similarities besides mmo's...there is still not one bit of actual proof/evidence that it will be an mmo and until then I don't think everyone should be jumping to conclusions and getting worked up over what could be nothing. (Would also like to note that even if they did have a strongly online-influenced feature that still wouldn't make it an mmo as an mmo is a TYPE OF GAME so it would either need to be completely a mmo or completely not.)

@moviequest14 When you describe something as similar to anything, I'm going to infer that it will copy all the major strong points that defined that item. If a movie describes itself as "like Avatar". The first things I'm going to think of is that its set in space, blue people, and EXCELLENT CG. Now if a video game compares itself to say WoW AND EQ, the first thing it will be is that its an..... M M O. And that is what DQX is shaping up to be. It could be a casual MMO like Perfect World, but an MMO nonetheless. Now how massive it will be depends on the number of purchasers. Yes, the game is soloable, but knowing SE and their love for all things online, it will not surprise me if only the best loot comes from bosses that do require you to jump online and play with high level friends.

@ decoy1978 : That is my point exactly...those are the the most famous pc games of all time (besides maybe Sims) ..that is why I hold little regard as to what Square Enix has to say about it being ''akin'' to WoW or EQ.....even if the only similarities were that you played as a hero they would be anxious to claim that for the name-power both those titles have...and since those titles are such big titles I think that means it is more likely that the definition of what is ''akin'' is much wider than the definition they would use for say...Perfect World or Lucentheart (while not really ''small'' titles not as large as the 2 listed) take,for example,so many movies comparing themselves to Avatar when there really are few likenesses...but Avatar is the highest selling movie of all time so they figure if they compare the movie to Avatar people will say ''Hey I loved Avatar so I will like this!''.

I do believe that the game is meant to be played solo with an emphasis of online play that borders into the MMO genre. However as a fan of both SQUARESOFT and ENIX in the 90's I am just utterly disappointed in Square Enix. When they first announced the merger of these two RPG Powerhouses years ago, I actually thought future RPG's coming from these companies would be the Master RPG of its console. Now, every time I hear that SE will release an RPG I start to worry. They messed up a few of my all-time favorites; FF and Front Mission. And now they are turning DQ into what seems like a casual FFXI. SE just can't seem to put down the MMO bug... and I'm not saying they should. Lightning can strike again as it did for them in FFXI, but after the nightmarish release of FFXIV I am now extremely cautious of the words MMO and SE in the same paragraph. I hope that DQ X does well, its one of the last bastion of series that defined console RPG's today. Just don't let them butcher the name...

O.o i don't know weather this is such a good idea putting it on the wii u AND the wii. I mean I know that it's good for some that aren't planning on getting the WII U, but it also means that less people may be buying the U

Yeah, SE blew it on this one, the first DQ console entry in years and you can only play the first few hours solo then you need to play online... really dissapointing. DQ 8 was perfect, was hoping for something along those lines... now not so interested.

@supa_badman Dude, all the Wii exclusives have been good, it's like, the only console this entire gen with decent exclusives. @moviequest14 Remember, it's only a gimmick until Sony does it, then it's INNAVASHUN!

Will probably end up like Monster Hunter Tri. The Japs had to pay for that game too but when it came to the US there was no charge. At least I hope that's the case, otherwise it's a no sale from me.

It better not suck as much as Final Fantasy XIV, I still don't get why they couldn't just make a traditional DQ game instead of turning it into an MMO. Nobody didn't really ask for a DQ MMO, Square Enix you know what game is perfect to be an MMORPG, ummm... it's called Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles. Yeah didn't really think of that did you.

I like the idea about using streepass on 3DS to get info for your games on Wii U, I thought of that a while ago.

@Lykanthropie Sony doesn't deserve a great RPG as an exclusive again? It's obvious you are a Ninfanboy. Funny, i was a big fan of Nintendo UNTIL the Wii. Played it and was turned off...never mind what was done to Twilight Princess. I will agree with FFXIII Vs. though. The more people that play it the better off SE is going to be for future games. As far as DragonQuest X goes....online? Ugh. RPGs are really being ruined with the addition of online. I never thought i would ever be turned off a Level 5 game until White Knight Chronicles. Now this with DQX? I rarely lay the smacketh down on Square Enix, but there's a first....and this is it. If this was a system seller for WiiU it just lost my purchase.

i would like to see FF Versus XIII on the wiiu, PS3 is to old it should run better on wiiu. Compared to PS3 exklusives - Sony would never deserve an great RPG as an exklusive again. JRPGs may could raise its old glory on a new nintendo system - and start on the wii. Games on Wii are just awesome. Cant say how long i played with the wii. But i never played a lot with my PS3 - The games that were really good are God of War 3 and demon souls and gow is over after 10 hours ... however i just would like to see a kickass console like the SNES, there isn't anything compareable, maybe the wii, but it will need some more good games ... more rpgs :-)

Seems like a fantastic idea, but there is also a lot of potential to mess up the series. I am looking forward to the title nonetheless.

@moviequest14 Are you kidding me now? You ask ANYONE that plays PC to give an example of an MMO and out of the Top 10 response, I guarantee you that WoW and EQ are in the Top 3. Are you telling me and the entire THREAD that you do not categorize WORLD OF WARCRAFT as an MMO? That EVERQUEST is not an MMO? /boggle You actually just lost ALL credibility right now when you said that... "online fantasy".... srsly....

@WolfGrey: Great games have been brought to motion. Just as a quick example Metroid Prime 3 utilizes the motion well. And if you don't like motion you could always play the games that don't utilize it much if at all, such as the Galaxy games, No More Heroes or Xenoblade Chronicles.

I was hoping it would come out this year, but at least I still have DQ IX to finish.

Good, as long as I can play through it solo and it isn't just some mini quest-level grinding-time waster, I'll be happy. They already killed FF for me with the online versions, please don't kill DQ too. If this plays out like DQ9 I'll be ecstatic.

@ decoy1978 : But if they were billing it as just an mmo they wouldn't have had to use both WoW and EQ as comparison (both of which are fantasy)...they could've used Secondlife,Entropia Universe/Planet Calypso,Champions Online or any other mmo's but they chose 2 online FANTASY games which means the point they are trying to get across more is Fantasy Online function rather than mmo.The other reason they touted those are because those are 2 very well known/popular online fantasy games so those would be the names to include even if alikeness was microscopic.

@Frame_Dragger I think it gives a chance to tell many stories at once and this may actually lead to a KOTOR 3.Perhaps, well i can dream. For now im in it for the stories that will be in it and learning all the back story i can in it.I wonder how long ill last til i have done everything in it lol.
