Dragon Age III: Inquisition hitting late 2013

BioWare announces next entry in role-playing game series; will run on new engine, offer bigger worlds, improved visuals, more "reactivity" to choices, and deeper customization; Dragon Age series sales hit 8 million.
BioWare officially announced the next entry in the Dragon Age series today. Writing on the BioWare website, executive producer Mark Darrah revealed the project as Dragon Age III: Inquisition.
Due out in late 2013, Dragon Age III: Inquisition will run on a new engine, with the team at BioWare using DICE's Frostbite 2 as a foundation. This engine will allow the company to build a "more expansive world" with improved visuals, more "reactivity" to player choices, and deeper customization options.
It was not mentioned which platforms Dragon Age III: Inquisition is in development for, and an Electronic Arts representative told GameSpot, "We have nothing further to announce right now." Next-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony are rumored to be on store shelves during late 2013.
Darrah further explained that much of the same team that has been working on Dragon Age since Dragon Age: Origins remains on board for Dragon Age III: Inquisition. In addition to the veteran developers, he noted that BioWare has added new talent as well.
Dragon Age III: Inquisition is in development at BioWare Edmonton and BioWare Montreal.
The game's announcement today comes as little surprise. BioWare has been openly hiring for Dragon Age III since May 2011. Additionally, the company spoke at PAX East in April and not-so-subtly suggested that co-op gameplay was planned for the next entry in the series.
Darrah added that fan feedback and communication is important to BioWare with Dragon Age III: Inquisition. He said BioWare is aiming to be "as open as we can" regarding development on the project, and said gamers should always feel free to provide feedback.
Lastly, in an accompanying press release, publisher EA revealed that the Dragon Age series has now moved over 8 million units. The franchise launched in 2009 with Dragon Age: Origins, with a sequel in Dragon Age II arriving in 2011.

I wont be suprised if EA decides to realease this on par with the next gen consoles,it would be like a monumental ripp off to the fans and to all those,included myself,that spent hours getting those ridiculous achievments,like supplier in DA II,binding the story,like that other trilogy that came out not long ago which the end was a mockery for all the hard work done past the last 2 games!That didn't meant squat!!

1 Like Origins was awesome! Dragon age II was an almost instant uninstall, the worst peace of crap that ever touched my PC's hard drive. After about an hour of playing I was done with it. Total waste of money!! Only bought it because I thought it would be the follow up to Origins. They could have used the origins engine and just build the next chapter of the story for us and call it Dragon age II, but no.. They screwed us over with this crud. If they release DA III, I'm not one to jump on it. I'd have to see stellar reviews from the Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale/NeverWinter Nights kind of RPG players, who like me enjoyed Origins but hated DA II.
@jonasf It was on the same engine as Origins. And Planescape: Torment is my favorite game, and I thought DA2 was much better than Origins.
orgin was so good tha t2 was like playing an expansion. 3 better be good or something creative. I reusing level is ok 2-3 times, but 3+ times is rediculus.
I got NO hopes either! to all that think this game will be like Origins or better.... its a LIE!!! ... I miss Neverwinter user content and dungeon master real online RPG... because of that Im looking after it on Neverwinter MMO which will include this feature, giving players the power of creativity!

@Poodlejumper FACT CHECK, please. You're way off on the development cycles for both Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age 3. The most commonly cited source for DA2's development cycle stated it was closer to 1 year. As of October of last year, BioWare stated DA3 was already "nearly two years into development."
DA2 suffered heavily because of it's extremely short development cycle. DA3 will have spent nearly 3x the length in development once it's released.
Yeah...they changed the release date since my comment there (which WAS October of last year) but it's rather funny what you said.
You seem to be saying that it was just the short development cycle...that's the only reason why DA2 blew fat chunks of goat vomit! It was just the short development cycle! It had nothing to do with metrics based marketing decisions by EA and the corporate culture bleeding into their latest aquisition. Yeah, that's the ticket.

And when DA3 has the same shallow lack of gameply with mighty morphin animations and graphics to cover up for it...you'll just say that because they didn't recylce maps this time it's some collossal win.

I've played BioWare since Baldur's Gate I. I know when things went into the garbage. I also know who picked up the ball when EA dtarted forcing the company to churn out shit.
1 Like Since Mr Laidlaw is in charge aka the hack, this with little doubt will suck, the man just doesn't get what detail and creativity is. Remember how he didn't understand why doing quests 10 times in the same room was a problem, the cut and pasted empty city, the horrible level and graphic design. Nope none of that was a problem, he blamed the consumers. He is one of the few BIoware guys left sucking on EA's tit and the worse hack of the lot.
@orbit991 Don't forget about the auto spawning monsters appearing all over the place right behind your spell casters to make sure every bit of strategy is utterly and completely destroyed. For stealthy characters try sneaking on monsters that haven't been spawned yet.... DAII, such "fun"... I cannot overstate what a huge pile of dung that game was. The guy responsible for releasing something like that with Bioware's name on it should be fired and banned from ever working in the gaming industry again.

Oh well... My computer's not powerful enough to run that, and I'm currently busy preparing myself for the coming year.....
2 Like Now that Bioware's heads are gone this will be a fully EA title. I had little hope for DA3 due to DA2 but now EA is in full charge... Hope is slim.

4 Like am I the only one who groaned when they read this, hopefully its not rushed and ruined ala DA2, seriously they took away just about everything that made DA1 great, I couldnt even be an elf! Combat seemed better but after a few hours of button mashing and destroying tons of darkspawn effortlessly on hard I got bored, with origins I actually had to think, the story is what really sold me with DA1 though, especially the choice at the end of it which just made me think and reflect, one of the best choice endings to a game in a LONG time and if your gonna force me to have a healer in my party make one that doesn't suck( judgement abomination guy whatever his name was)
3 Like this is sorta on subject: anyone notice how once a favorite developer gets acquired by the evil 2, the next release in a beloved series is seroiusly disappointing to the gamers but the critics love it?? Think DA2 and Diablo 3. I really hope there is someone left at the end of the day that represents we gamers. Or perhaps it is an opportunity somehow
2 Like @philMcCrevis what we need to do is stop buying the half made games they are putting out, which I think is happening cause I read that game sales were down, and the author blames out of date consoles, no hows about you guys are charging us 60 bucks for half made junk!
2 Like i really love the first game and the fantasy universe within it. the second in the series was less interesting and customizable with too much repetition. having said that, there were good things about it as well, imo, and hopefully they can meld the best parts of both games into the 3rd.
1 Like one thing i want is more varied environments to travel too. exploration was well done in the mass effect and KOTOR games, so bioware should know what they're doing....*cough*
5 Like It's true that there will always be people who prefer one style of game over another, for instance the tactical slow paced DA:O vs the fast paced mayhem of DA2, but it is entirely inexcusable when a sequal is released (for what i thought was a decent first entry in the series) less than a year after the original that is simply incomplete, and seemingly pasted together. The environments were recycled over and over and over again in what can only be described as a "maybe they won't notice" moment, the dialogue and "choices" were ultimately useless in the end, making me question why i sat through hours of long and boring dialogue attempting to pick a specific path for my ending, the quests were boring and predictable and repetitive, the combat was a joke, there was no in depth character customization and there were many many bugs. This is a far cry from the days of baldur's gate 1 and 2, which for me are still the best RPG's ever made, where so much thought and passion was put into the games that years on, i still return for my play at Godhood. Simply put, Bioware is a disgrace, and i will NEVER buy another of their games again unless i have downloaded it first and seen that it meets my expectations. Empires rise and then (having sold out to EA) fall, and unfortunately this is now Bioware's story too. DA:3... what a joke. They should start all over again.
As an afterthought, i still can't understand WHY they didn't bother to expand on the success of DA:O, and create a massive amount of DLC for it to enrich the world. People want to be allowed to explore a world that is huge, and contains many challenges. I guess they just got lazy and greedy...

i hope inquisition doesnt start to ask questions every 2minutes , it s really bothering all this useless dialogues ... i mean it's good to have choice and act in the storie, but the choices and conversation need to have a purpouse ... Dragon Age to me failed to deliver , it had good world content , but it was empty , wow like , elderscrool ripoff like ... they should take example at the finest : like witcher 2 , gw2, uncharted,arkham city and such and think about how they want to improve their game , fun and gameplay experience ... Now that said , Frostbite 2 for a RPG , is absolutly dope ... i wonder if they can do as well as their friend from DICE who did delivered bf3 one of the best fps of the past generation ...
I hope it's much better than Dragon Age 2 because that was a disappointment, I mean reusing the same areas in the game is just stupid, a guy with no common sense would know that but even through, I hope there's much more storyline, more unique environments, new amazing enemies, new companions, and more romance options :D. And also I would really want more (you're awesome) moments if you know what I mean :D.PS. I hope you can create your own house and then customize it yourself like what color your door is going to be, things like that.
@Icy_Angel Dragon age 2 is a really good game...it scored well in all review sites...the reason is why the reviewers are adults ....not childish players that cant comprehend character's dialogues ,feelings and jokes ...i think bioware is aming a new age group,i hope that continues or ill never play another dragon age again lol....and about the combats ..dragon age 2 was much more fluid and dinamic i think....and i just dont have patience and time for that tedious dragon age origin combat....and again thanks bioware to put florence music in the end :) ...was as a gift to me...

English may not be your mother tonque but neither is logic, common sense and the understanding that gamers that were into the "tedious" mechanics of the first game, that sold over 5 million copies, wanted that to continue in the next version. D2 was garbage which is supported by the fan outrage on this site and others AND by its horrible sequel sales numbers.
25% of the professional reviews gave it a 70 or lower and the metacritic user score was below 5. compare that to the MC user score for the original and you'll understand why it is considered garbage

@Stardust7 @philMcCrevis Yeah you're contradicting yourself. First you say the reviews were adult-like (which I laughed at) and when someone brought up the metacritic ratings you went on the defense saying that you don't need reviews to prove anything. If you can't stand by your defense, don't make a reply in the first place.
@Stardust7 @Icy_Angel dragon age , was a piece of krap ... and reviewers gave good grades because reviewers always rate well big companies , they pay better and since they are big , they dont want to take the chance to rate low something from them ... too big to fail .... but the gamer community isnt that forgivable , and most of us take ratings from ign gamespot to give an general idea of the game more that real reviews .... cause they are shitty reviews anyway ... just look at SWTOR .. i remember seeing all those "reviewers" excited about it , all they had to say was good thing .. yet it's a piece of krap, and it was easy to see it coming.

Use the word "because" and not "cuz".
Capital letters at the start of every sentence.
"I" is always capital.
Full stop at the end of each sentence.
Subject-verb-Object.
And most importantly, never claim an incredibly crappy game was really good.
It's poor form in any language.
Dragon Age III is could be the redemption or doom for Bioware. I can't wait to see if they can still make rpg's or I should look for another company.
Dragon Age 2 was amazing ...better than origins in my opnion...Origins main char is mute and the combat system is boring ( ZZzzZzzzZ ) .....i liked dragon age 2 characters too much ...the only bad thing was the linear maps ...but thats not so bad i think....and i loved to listen Florence music playing in the end :)

And well the combat system in DA2 is actually fun (because it makes you laugh). But the combat system in DAO was more challenging and varied (maybe because it was meant for PC).
1 Like I'm waiting for user reviews too. DA2, ME2:Arrival, ME3 is a dangerous trend. Hopefully they can break it. I'm not putting my money on them anymore though.

DA1 in my mind was one of the best RPG to have ever been released, and that's saying something since I been playing RPGs since days of SNES.
But DA2 and ME3 has completely dashed my faith in these guys, now it's going to take some serious non-commercial approvals before they get my money again.
@LordPhreaka if you consider DA1 your top list,you should try Baldur's Gate.Am not trolling you or whatever,i just played all +the Icewindales and NWNs..so DA1 felt like the first "decent copy" of BG2.I kinda lost all hopes with the DA series, but wish them the best..and hope bioware wont go down..
@abadgirl84 @LordPhreaka If u liked the BG series u should try out bards tale thats from the same team have played it its a good game played BG1 .2 playing drakkan ps2 classic game rare through hard to find a copy but excellent for 2002 release ride around on dragon which talks, chick main character.
@dawnsun2 @LordPhreaka I think i've played some demo of that (or i mistake it with other game Oo) and didnt got into it.As for ps..i dont own one,and the little free time i have now for games..i spend it in GW2..i didnt even finish Skyrim and am a huuuuge TES fan :)) ,so doubt will try the bard one. As for DA..i seriously gave up on it ever since the EA thing, I wish i would have gotten so into it as u did Lord..
@abadgirl84 @LordPhreaka Ya BG was definitely one of my favorites too, I did say "one of the" best RPGs of all time ;)
For DA1 the game mechanics, the graphics, the playing experience was great, but ultimately it was the story and how it ended that made it such an epic experience for me.
At the end, it made me reflect on how events unfolded in game, it made me revisit the game to clues that tie into its ending, and above all it made me dream about all the great ways it could branch out in the future. It truly felt like the beginning of one, massively epic, meticulously crafted journey.
