$50 bundle includes all 17 previous entries in RTS series updated for Windows 7 and Vista; early access to upcoming free-to-play C&C also included.
Electronic Arts today announced the Command & Conquer Ultimate Collection, a compilation of all 17 entries and expansion packs that have been released in the real-time strategy game series' 17-year history. Due out in October for $50, the collection also packs in early access to the upcoming beta for the Frostbite 2-powered free-to-play Command & Conquer game, which arrives in 2013.
All games within the Command & Conquer Ultimate Collection have been updated for Windows 7 and Windows Vista. In the United States, it will be available online and at physical retailers. Availability for other regions was not specified. The Command & Conquer Ultimate Collection also includes a "Best of Command & Conquer" music compilation.
The collection is composed of the following, redeemable via download code:
Command & Conquer
Command & Conquer The Covert Operations
Command & Conquer Red Alert
Command & Conquer Red Alert Counterstrike
Command & Conquer Red Alert The Aftermath
Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun
Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun Firestorm
Command & Conquer Red Alert 2
Command & Conquer Red Alert Yuri’s Revenge
Command & Conquer Renegade
Command & Conquer Generals
Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour
Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars
Command & Conquer 3 Kane’s Wrath
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 Uprising
Command & Conquer 4 Tiberian Twilight
I was going to get this until I saw this article and it's all just redeemable codes for downloading.. I have very strict caps so I can't download much. This would have been the perfect collection. On the bright side I just saved $50.
I've discovered a way to make Red Alert 1 work in 1080p on 64 bit Windows 7 if anyone's interested.
It takes effort but it's worth it. Don't worry if you can't find the disc, there's a couple of places online where you can download the whole game, but you will need a blank CD.
I would like to see a collection of the Dune RTS series released, but I would suspect that would require Origin to play as well.
Loved the C&C games ever since I can remember, been trying for months to get my copy of C&C Decade to work on Windows 7, with no luck at all. Seems to be that EA were just holding out to make more money off the franchise though.
I won't be buying it again that's for sure. They've had my money once and even then it didn't work.
Idiotic company, it's reasons like this their customers don't like them!
@warhawk-geeby I haven't had problems getting TFD working on my W7 computer. Even the oldest games still work on it.
Remove the DRM and constant internet connection required garbage from tiberian twilight and keep the rest of the games clean of that venom thenthis might be a decent collection.
However from what is said above this entire collection will probably have DRM added to it for no good reason and most likely require the use of origin to play anything so no sale.
This is what I feel EA needs to do:
1: Drop the Free 2 Play model on the new Command & Conquer game.
2: Call it Command & Conquer: Generals 2 again.
3: Include campaing and skirmish modes at launch.
4: Add the Generals Challenge mode that was included in Zero Hour
5: Include the ablity to Battlecast.
6: Bring BattleCast Primetime back!
7: Most importantly: DO NOT MAKE US REQUIRE ORIGIN TO PLAY!!!
Most of those games were great!!!
Some of them were good like Generals, and Renegade.
Some of them are kinda meh, like C&C RA3 and it's expansion,
and one is rather disappointing C&C4.
Lots of great music for video game soundtrack lovers.
Not a bad deal, and will inevitably fall further in price, in time. (which would make it more reasonable, as a few of these games are freeware now)
Though for people that own most, or all of them, there is no reason to get it (as I own them all)
Also there are some mods out there for the original C&C to up the games resolution to 720p looks much better on current hardware with that mod.
Also C&C 3 (and Kane's Wrath) both some of the better recent C&C games, have mods that I hear are pretty awesome, even some modern warfare mods for it, and some that make it more like the original game. I think I will install and play it again just to check it out one day, as I never got around to the mods for those 2 games yet.
If they take out C&C4 I'd consider getting it. Till then, I swore never to touch that piece of $#!@ and I don't intend to do it now.
You don't have to download/install C&C 4 if you buy C&C: The Ultimate Collection.
@J4m3sR4n0r72 True, but I don't want to give a cent that relates to C&C4. Buying that pack means I gave them money for the crime that is C&C4, in essence approving what they did to Kane's last game.
Just like Ubi will pull any potential pirate under the banner of a "lost sale", whether it makes sense or not, I don't want to give EA any kind of excuse to spin it so it looks as though C&C4 was a success or accepted by the consumers.
Pretty convenient they release this at this time. After the reception they recieved on the F2P model for the next C&C, they probably realized they aren't going to milk off the the C&C franchise as much as they'd hoped, so released this. Easy money.
pls take your paltry backhanded offering and shove it... and at this point i would much rather gouge my own wallet and go buy a seemingly useless pool filled with jello, than to give any money to EA as they attempt to make money off work they never did. I would much rather dust off my old discs and use compatibility, or a proper crack to sort it out.
besides it will prolly be on their store, online only, and the matchmaking system will suck per usual EA business practice
god damit EA first you kill C&C gen 2 and then you realese this which is something i might buy sigh.... i hate you ea i really do cause im probally gonna buy this while you kill one of the greatest RTS seriers every made and is arguably better than starcraft
Saddens me to hear CnC 4 will be F2P. I wouldn't have a problem with the model if all the F2P games I've played weren't a steaming pile, although come to think of steaming piles EA have done a good job of consuming and excreating every title in the CnC series since Zero Hour :(.
They got all the opportunities to make cnc shine again with the generals 2 announcement... but them... they had to screw everything again.
Too bad I own The First Decade already and have a majority of these games. Only ones I don't have are C&C 3, RA3, and C&C4.
C&C 3 is actually great.
@klitfelt @69ingChimpmunks no its not, c&c3 is a huge fiasco, not a solid game, i played it since beginning and if you did too you would know the idiots at ea, kept making drastic changes to all units in a very continous manner, they had no fucking clue as to what they were making in the game, they just followed the peoples ideas on what should be changed, the game turned out to be always overpowered to some units, underpowered to others.. then they changed and those overpowered, another unit would become overpowered and they never reached an actual good balance. game fucking sux, and its the same with all C&C post Generals. Generals Zero Hour, is the best C&C game in history of gaming.
red alert 3 wasnt bad it really wasnt and the navy focus of it was a interesting new aspect not that i disagree with you really
@69ingChimpmunks Probably for the best considering Zero Hour was the last decent game in the series, EA really do love to shaft a good series :(.
