BioWare considered Mass Effect 3 first-person shooter

Wow, thats pathetic! They actually scrapped a deeper and better developed FPS mass effect game so they could put absolute crap into ME3 and call it multiplayer? This seems a bit unlikely.

I think Bioware should stick to what they know and let the FPS vets like Valve, Crytek, and ID handle the FPS genre.

Multiplayer is like pointing me with gun to play in order to get best ending. 1st person shooting - when we rolling, can we shot at the same time or can we see where is our targets once finish rolling? Armor Customization - with 1st person shooting, we no longer can see how impressive is the armor set look like? Shepard face - come on, we make a Shepard face like a Hero or a Badass. With 1 person element, we only can see Shepard face in the mirror in the game. Instead of First person shooting, i will prefer put into Space battle with reaper when the reaper alertness reach max instead of running like a loser.

@thetarget I read a while back from a dev who wanted to stay anonymous that publishers LOVE Fps , because it's a CHEAP "safe" investment, EASY, straightforward to make, no special risky mechanics ... and because hordes of shooter ppl will eat it up. and if they don't rach popularity it's much more likely to turn a profit.

Whats so nice about FPS anyway? Do they look nicer? No. Are they more fun? No. So why do people keep making them? Are they cheaper to make?

Now they're trying to deter us from the bad ending and trivializing it with other nonsense

@vannacut agree, but combat things are so clumsy in ME3 with the cover and all, they should adopt a hybrid fps and tps as what was done with deus ex hr, heck if you had the combat of deus ex hr and the dialogue of mass effect, you would have one of the best games of all time instead of a game (me3) that stands out for its visuals and dialoge and galaxy content.

I wonder if bioware employee's get together after work an go drink while remembering the good old days before EA bought them out lol.

the guy who likes fantasy wants rpg, the guy who wants shooter wants realism, cod and battlefield are handling that with their content very suitable for real world, mass effect has become what it is today because of the rpg lovers, not fps guys, bioware's success is due to the support from the rpg fans , they praised their products, now bioware wants to serve the fps guys with their sci-fi material, i am not into fps but if i wanted to play fps i d go play cod or battlefield ...i might be wrong about this , it s just how i feel about it...

It was smart of them not to release yet another FPS. It would have been smarter of Bioware to actually end the trilogy in a way that wouldn't piss everyone off..... This is why we're so angry, we spent 3 games building alliances and friendships that we knew we'd be going to war yet when zero hour arrived yeah we fought a GROUND BATTLE on Earth then basically get told nothing matters.....nothing we did matters. So....maybe making that FPS wasn't so insane after all, at least then it would have made sense.....but I doubt I would have bought it lol

EA must die...if it had been FPS, that would've killed any chance of me playing it. I still want to...despite the crap it's getting.

Basically, what this thread tells me is that, "We actually considered to make the generic, and stupid decision of having yet another FPS in an already heavily saturated gaming market filled with FPS' and potentially lose any last remnant of our loyal fanbase. We decided not to, because we're saving that for a spin-off series instead to milk the living s*** out of our newest and biggest franchise. Next we'll have an MMO, because THOSE ALWAYS work out well! I mean look at Final Fantasy XIV or Halo Online (Which got canceled). Clearly the fans are holding off our creative genius by NOT accepting the current and mediocre trends that plague every genre with clones of shooter games, and barely acceptable RPG elements!" I know no one will agree with me, but I think a Mass Effect FPS would be cool. It would be a nice change from all of these military shooters. I mean... Fighting a First Person war in the Citadel? Sounds fun to me.

God, not everything needs to be an FPS! It feels like almost every game I play is an FPS, where are my RTS'? Where are my Simulations? Ah, I probably would have played the FPS regardless, I'm THAT much of a Mass Effect fan.

brought game today Dont care about the ending like some pp and i think up to the creator what ending should be not pp or fans. At the end there game not fans.

Very often, when I play Mass Effect 2, I have a Star Wars Battlefront feeling. The ME FPS would be a nice appetizer until SWB 3 isn't released.

You forgot to say the same maps you already go through in single player side missions. The multiplayer gets boring and repetitive fast, i got over it during the demo.

Hey BioWare, thanks for lying and saying there will be multiple endings that depend on the choices you made. No matter what choices you made, the only difference was the color.

I know one thing for sure about bioware. Unless there is some miracle free DLC that makes the ending of ME3 worth it.. After DA2 and now ME3, I won't be buying a bioware game again.

Personally would have loved if they kept this and would have enjoyed a FPS/TP perspective (option to toggle) similar to Star Wars Battlefront. Gamer entitlement has reached a massive high. I see nothing but crying. Go ahead and blame the multiplayer for lack of ME: SP quality. Developer resources? Right. How does that explain Dragon Age II? Those of you who placed no blame, but had concerns? I understand, I felt the same way too. But, I think it's safe to say, even with the resources and basic VG development money and education, 80% of the people here couldn't make a better game - and if they did, they'd likely have no idea how to keep their business afloat by having little to no idea what market has the most profit potential. Not only that but the incessant whining about how "it'll be like every (insert genre here)" Give me a break. The whiners (the most of you) are crying about originality whether it be in shooters or something else - then Bioware changes something - Exactly what the masses were being babies about: Everything being "the same" (I want you to ask yourself how possible this will be in fifty or so years) You got your change. Learn to deal. And if you want to make a difference, try being more active in your local QA testing community. If you don't live near one, too bad.

I love ME3's single player gameplay. It's fast, fun, runs well, feels more like a shooter (which regardless of what RPG fans may want, is what a game where you're shooting people should feel like rather than feeling a dice roll each time you pull the trigger). However, I really wish this multiplayer component stayed as something else, since it took dev resources away from the single player component, and the game forces you to play it to get the best (ha) ending. Multiplayer's fine and good when it doesn't invade singleplayer, but that's exactly what they did here.

I have to say, I recently played through Dragon Age: Origins again (which on the PC is IMO Bioware's magnum opus), and it reminded me just how fantastic and amazing Bioware used to be, and has the potential to be as there's no way a company could have such creativity and fantastic design and completely lose it. ... And then I started playing through Dragon Age 2 again and immediately lost all sense of hope (although admittedly it wasn't as bad as I remembered, but merely mediocre. And following up one of the best RPG's of all time with a game that ranks as "meh" just doesn't pass).

Don't think That DA3 will be good game

@helmarogking Exactly! dude I am really curious on how DA 3 is going to turn out, they start with a game that is a truly solid rpg. Then the sequel which feels like an action game and you're stuck in a City the whole game (kirkwall). This third one has really got me wondering and worried almost.

Soon there will be mass effect: dota edition then there will be mass effect side scroller shooters and mass effect facebook and.....

No wonder why ME3 feels more of a shooter than rpg.
