Battlefield 3 to implement new 'Matches' feature

New gameplay feature will allow players to coordinate competitive multiplayer sessions with friends and squad members, as well as create, control, and track online play.
EA has revealed it will be implementing a new "Matches" feature in Battlefield 3.
The feature will let players coordinate competitive multiplayer sessions by selecting the time, server, game settings, and roster.
Players must be actively renting a dedicated server in order to coordinate matches, which can be done for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 through Battlelog. EA has also stated that matches will be customizable with a list of settings that includes friendly fire, 3D spotting, squad-leader spawning, kill cam, health regeneration, and weapon unlocks.
Before the match begins, players will be able to engage in a warm-up phase where no kills or points are counted. After the match, players can review the number of rounds played, maps used, etc. on Battlelog.
EA has not yet announced a release date for the "Matches" feature.

OMG BF3 is so wack.. lmao i got bombarded the last time i said something negative about this shit... yeah yeah mumble jumble who cares next..
Nice to hear as it is, i think the updates are a little too late now. Don't get me wrong. i love this game but to release new updates when most of the players have already adjusted to the "old" system? I'm not sure what to think about this. I think this will be an advantage for those with premium servers. Just like premium itself, this one has no interest. One point: the Anti-Aliasing-switching-thing does not work well for PS3s. Also, hitbox detection does not work properly all the time, I guess. I don't know if these updates will enhance the game or degrade it. However they intend to make the game more fun, the game keeps on getting worse after every update. It may be player-specific but I experrienced no sound while playing, no hits detected when I have to act fast, and the perennial lagging like hell. I was attracted to Battlefield 3 because of the realistic aspect of it unlike the CoD series but I now unable to play this game the way I want it to be played anymore. Dice has given us crap with this. ALso, matches is a good idea for folks wanting to have competition but DICE does not seem to notice anymore that most of the players of this game are no longer the casual gamers who once flooded the servers. It's so damned hard now to get into a match and be given a 50-50 chance at winning. Well, I'm not that good but at least the thought of you having equal oppurtunity to win is consoling in the least while in the game. Now, you jump into a private server and you'll be forced to fight against an entire clan all at once who all have mics and lag switches. I am for private servers but not everyone has the time to join clans, etc. hopefully, the in-game fixes have been addressed by the last patch. anyway, I'm back to watching out for more interesting games I guess. can i turn off the aim assist for everyone ? can i play a ranked match with no mini map ?? if not Pass. rent a server to play this ? pass
Awesome, more Battlefield 3 features! Oh wait, it'll be 2 bloody gigabytes again and I'll be forced to buy a new harddrive. THANKS.
Can't people already decide to do this if they rent a server regardless? Can't they decide who gets in? If I can pick who can get in and when they I'm pretty sure this can already be done.
2 Like This game has gone to hell due to spawn-raping and trapping. I can't join a server without this happening all the time. It sucks.

@Shilleto As the game loads you back in after being revived the screen goes black. Often at this stage I heard gunfire and spawn in already dead.
And the fact you can be shot again before the black screen has even cleared so you just load in dead.

I get killed by spawn campers all the time. Many have the areas memorized as to where opposing forces will respawn. It's crap. Why is it so hard for developers to implement something like a "5 second rule" where as soon as you respawn, your invulnerable for a few moments and are at least given a chance to move before your gunned down by some schmuck. BF is not the only game that this is a problem with. Pretty much ALL FPS with a multiplayer feature have this problem
1 Like Yeah, I agree it's pretty bad. Personally, I can't stand the way they have the revive action set up. I get killed more times from being 'revived' only to be shot again (By the same person, I might add.) right after the action. That's frustrating as hell.
@RenegadeGR @Ritchie69 Where are you spawning? Can you not choose a different spawn point where there aren't people there waiting to kill you? You talking about CQ, Rush, DM..?
2 Like I love the Battlefield franchise. Not sure if this is correct or not, but to find a DICE server wouldn't all you have to do is search "DICE"? So many ppl complaining about the easiest things.
@rrandolph I have tried this and found far to many servers to mention with 'DICE' in the name that aren't official servers. I do think this is an issue that needs addressing.

1 Like @endorbrBut stuff like this are what I call the game... Now that I don't have Premium and my own server even if I bought the game and the expension... I have Half of the game I payed for... 1/2 of a game isn't a game. Everybody will want to access these features one day and everybody doesn't own his server or have time to invest in one..?
3 Like there's been so many people asking for competitive play options throughout FPS in the past years and now that someone is actually giving it to you all this negativity is going on about this.. weird bunch of people you are.
if you're not into competitive play then this wont do anything for you but if you are it's a nice extra to get some clan vs clan matches going.
Do any other PS3 players have trouble spotting? I do it all the time and it seems that sometimes it doesn't register with the game properly. Is it just me or is this an issue on PS3 or even other platforms??
1 Like @deadpeasant I've noticed it's an issue with aircraft a lot in particular. Sometimes you have no problem getting a spot and other times you can track them as they approach, while they fly over, and after they've passed and it won't ever give you the spot.
2 Like @deadpeasant One thing I noticed when spotting you can't spam the select button or it won't allow you to spot for a few seconds, so you have to be almost right on the person or vehicle for t to register. They had this in BFBC2 to keep people to permaspotting everyone.
3 Like Don't care, Battlefield went downhill since BC2 came out and turned the community into litle idiots who don't do any teamwork or ever communicate and the map design in the newer BF games is just horrendous.
BF2,Vietnam,2142 now those were great Battlefield games.

@Dragon_Nexus I guess it's "console" part that is wrong here. I've had best teamplay ever while playing BF2.

Sadly, that's probably never going to happen. Unless EA finds some archaic way to make a ton of money out of it, of course.
@SaviorXavi3r There was LAN capability in 2 and 2142, plus you could fill the space with bots. Very stupid bots. But you of course couldn't earn any points, unlocks, etc.
It was one of my favorite features, as my clan would use the feature to really practice getting a feel for the guns against the dumbass bots.
