Aliens: Colonial Marines delayed to fall

Sega says it did not want to "sacrifice creative process" to meet former spring ship date; first-person science fiction shooter now due this fall.

Gamers hoping to play Aliens: Colonial Marines in spring 2012 won't have that opportunity. In a statement provided to the GameStop-owned Game Informer magazine, Sega and Gearbox Software revealed that the sci-fi first-person shooter has been delayed to fall 2012.

"Aliens: Colonial Marines is a process of creativity and invention and those don't necessarily follow the structure of an assembly line," reads a line from the statement provided to Game Informer.

"While setting clear goals, deadlines and predictions is helpful, they are often subjective. We don't want to sacrifice the creative process just for the sake of following a blueprint. We prefer to have the creative discovery shape that blueprint because our goal is to make a great game, and we are prioritizing this goal over the previously targeted date."

When it does ship, Aliens: Colonial Marines will arrive for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. Its story will pick up shortly after the events of the 1986 sci-fi film Aliens. Players will join a squad of the titular space soldiers who board the USS Sulaco, the spaceship from the film, after it is apparently abandoned. From there the action will spread to the surface of the planet LV-426 and its main settlement, Hadley's Hope. The first-person shooter will also feature environments and weapons inspired by the film.

That's what I was talking about, why wouldn't they track the pod to the prison colony? The plot doesn't make much sense.

Better for my bank balance that they delay the game avoiding the Spring crush. Patience young Padawan patience

Bummed it is pushed back. But it might be a good thing. Maybe they want to polish it up and not dissappoint the fans. I grew up watching these movies and if they keep the feeling of the movie it should be good.

hadley's hope got destroyed, but this is probably pre-event, they only tried to destroy hadley's hope because everyone was dead, ripley, girl newt, android bishop, and hicks were left.

@mrhatnclogs : it was a nuclear reactor(more or less) so not the whole planet was destroyed, just messed up real bad, also this is a support marine team( apparently they didnt get the memo that things went bad), and only escape pods were jettasoned on lv436(the prison planet) the main ship did not crash...but who cares, it still should be fun with a plot!

Few things that are bothering me, from reading wikipedia this is taking place between Aliens and Alien 3.

    Problems:

    1. Hadleys hope was turned into a crater.

    2. After Aliens, the Sulaco was heading back to base, they should still be on board.

    3. If they found it abandoned, it would mean that the remaining crew crashed on the prison colony, why wouldn't they check that out?

Damn it, i was looking forward to playing this, i hate it when games get put back till the Christmas, come on, we know the game is ready, you just want to make as much money out of it but releasing it at the end of the year!!! I hate it, no games to buy for 10 months and then in a space of two month 20 odd games you want to play come out and not enough cash to get all.

@sammyd1234- No to both of those suggestions, those noises are intrinsic to Aliens!

get rid of that damn beeping sound, its so annoying, also change the gun sounds, they sound really bad. thats just 2 bad things i can say about this so far.

@endorbr - spot on. The first two movies are the only "cannon" movies in my mind, so this game is the only proper sequel to the Aliens movie I will likely get for the next couple of decades. No pressure Gearbox. We can only hope Hollywood and games companies stop with the AvP already. Predator 2 has a lot to answer for.

@Legrieme - I hate to say it, but you're probably right. I'll bet you Sega read consumer feedback about getting games completed to a deadline, and used it as an excuse to delay the release. I hope though, that extra polish is being added, or am I being naive?

God I'm getting sick of these Game company's Greed. Keep delaying games to meet with their Fiscal Year's to manipulate profits for their shareholders. And anybody who thinks otherwise is a moron and has no clue how the realworld operates.

Sucks but not surprised. This game has been pushed back so many times I'm just like "...meh". After seeing the last gameplay demo I wasn't too impressed either. Feels like an addon to AVP, but I might be wrong after this pushback

I know that this could be a good thing, thinking that the game will have more time for polishing.

However, I'm saddened by the fact that it will probably just become obscured in the mass quantity of games that are released this fall and it might fail to meet sales expectations.

My bet is that by Christmas, this game will be on sale for $20. I hate saying that, but I've seen it happen so many times.

Sad face. I was hoping for it to come out at release. But I would rather have a good aliens game than a crappy one. I will just have to deal with it. All I can say is Sega better not screw this up cause I was anticipating this game for a long time.

If they are delaying it then that means its going to be a better game. This game will probably end up being the best Alien shooter yet!

Better to wait, considering how BAD the previous AVP games were.

AVP2 for the PC is still the hands down best Alien vs Predator game in my opinion.

    Even the multiplayer was fantastic.

I still find the PS1 Aliens game scary to play. No problem with the Dead Space series, but I think that this might be more intense to play. Not that its a needed feature, but a multiplayer horde mode would be an obvious and good way to extend of the life of the game

Faith is down on this one..to many nonplaying movieparts, its like u run from one cutscene to another in minutes. And had really hoped to play as Ripley.
Finally avp wasent halfbad, multiplayer is pretty fun "adv sissiors, stone, paper" and it runs on DirectX 11.

Well, if its to improve quality, then I guess I don't mind waiting. Geez, why can't Sega give Sonic this kind of treatment? Yes I know the last two Sonic games(Colors and Generations) were good, but they still weren't amazing.

Bravo to Sega ! Thank you for caring about product quality - instead of deadline (money). I know the outstanding quality of other recent games has really raised the gaming 'bar' - and several game makers have had to revamp their product. Also, despite previous attempts, there has never been a decent shooter for Aliens that it's fans have long thirsted for - let get it right. We don't want ANOTHER disappointment.
