Intel expecting GTAV on PC
Director of marketing says "I don't think it'll be console-exclusive very long," believes initial console exclusivity for Halo hurt the brand overall.
According to a representative for PC chip maker Intel, it is not a question of if Grand Theft Auto V will be released on PC, but when. Director of marketing for Intel's Premium Notebooks Chris R. Silva told PC Gamer that the open-world game won't remain a console-exclusive for much longer.
"At least with Grand Theft Auto, I don't think it'll be console-exclusive very long. But that's what happens when you have a brand new launch with two companies that have lots of money trying to make sure they have content."
The reason Rockstar Games has not announced GTAV for PC, according to Silva, is because "Somebody paid a lot of money to make sure that title was exclusive."
The PC iteration of Grand Theft Auto IV launched about eight months after the console versions shipped in April 2008. Nearly 600,000 people have signed an online petition calling on Rockstar Games to release GTAV on PC.
GTAV launched last month and has generated more than $1 billion to date. Its multiplayer mode--Grand Theft Auto Online--was released on October 1.
Also in the interview, Silva said Microsoft's decision to launch the Halo series as a console-exclusive, with ports of the original and Halo 2 coming later, "hurt" the brand overall. No Halo game has been released on PC since Halo 2.
