The game follows Gaiman's trademark style in embracing the supernatural genre, featuring a ghost who seeks a peaceful afterlife. To accomplish this he must get rid of the people living in his former home.

Wayward Manor begins in the 1920s and progresses to a modern-day setting as the ghost makes an effort to be rid of residents in his home, and begins to understand the mystery surrounding his own death.

Gaiman described the game as "light hearted" and "goofy" in an interview with Mashable.

"Back in the late 1990s, I spent a lot of time working with various gaming companies. What tended to happen is I put an incredible amount of work in these things and just as something was about to happen, the company was about to go bankrupt." Gaiman said.

The author did not reveal any additional details surrounding gameplay, but did say that "normally, in a game, if you're in a haunted house, you are going to be walking through it intrepidly…and you keep going until you find the ghost. In this one, all you want to do is be left in peace with your lovely house".

Fans can pre-order a copy at the game's official website. Wayward Manor will be available later this year on PC, Mac, and tablets.
