According to Activision, the console versions of Diablo III have been custom-tailored for play with controllers. This includes an all-new user interface and an "intuitive control system."

Diablo III for consoles supports single-player and multiplayer with up to four players via same-screen local play or across PlayStation Network or Xbox Live.

"In addition to the fine-tuning we've done for the console versions, we're also including major content and design updates we've made to the PC version over the past year, so players can expect an epic Diablo gaming experience when the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions launch in September," Blizzard Entertainment CEO Mike Morhaime said in a statement.

Unlike the PC version, the console iterations of Diablo III will not require a constant Internet connection.

Diablo III originally launched for Windows PC and Mac in May 2012. The game has sold more than 12 million copies as of December 31.

Activision has yet to announce a release date for the PS4 version of Diablo III or confirm if the game is also in development for the Xbox One.
