Sony seeking 'Sturmendrang' trademark
Sony Online Entertainment trademark covers role-playing games, potentially related to German historical literacy movement.
PlanetSide 2 and EverQuest developer Sony Online Entertainment has filed a trademark application for "Sturmendrang."
Filed May 13 with the United States Patent & Trademark office (via NeoGAF), it covers multiplayer online role-playing games.
In addition, the website www.sturmendrang.com was registered last month by Jason Fermo, who, according to his LinkedIn page, works at SOE as a senior network engineer.
The word "Sturmendrang" appears to be a form of Sturm und Drang, the 18th-century German literary movement that translated means "Storm and Stress."
The phrase is alluded to in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series via the Durmstrang Institute for Magical Learning.
A Sony representative was not immediately available to comment regarding the trademark application.
