Xbox 360 US sales hit 281,000 in January

Microsoft's console leads all current-generation platforms, driving $338 million in total retail spend during the month.

Citing NPD data, Microsoft announced today it sold 281,000 Xbox 360 units in January in the United States, marking the system's 25th straight month as the top-selling console in the region. Year-on-year sales are up, as Microsoft sold 270,000 Xbox 360 units during January 2012.

Gamers spent a total of $338 million on Xbox 360 consoles and accessories during the month, the most for any console, Microsoft said.

Xbox 360 market share now stands at 44 percent.
