Obsidian Entertainment's crowd-funding campaign for an isometric, party-based role-playing game called Project Eternity has closed with $4.3 million. The game's record-setting Kickstarter drive hauled $4.1 million itself at its close in October, with another 200,000 brought in through the developer's website.

In a statement, Obsidian said those who missed out on the twofold crowd-funding phase for Project Eternity can still contribute to the project. The developer is offering a limited-time "Slacker Backer" option, available now through the company's website.

Project Eternity, due in 2014 on Steam and GOG, will combine elements of past Infinity Engine role-playing projects like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Planescape: Torment. Players will create their own character in Project Eternity and will gather companions along their journey, which will be replete with "complex, difficult choices," according to Obsidian.

Obsidian turned to Kickstarter for Project Eternity because the company said it was "almost impossible" to secure the necessary funding through traditional publishing means. Additionally, the studio said it asked for more than most Kickstarter projects because it is "creating a whole new world."
