League of Legends registers 15 million
Riot Games announces new user tally for free-to-play action RTS; 1.4 million play every day, 10 games start every second.
Riot Games has created only one game since it was formed, but that title has proven popular for the Santa Monica, California, studio. Today, the developer said its free-to-play action real-time strategy game League of Legends has some 15 million registered users.
Riot Games broke down the user statistics further, saying 1.4 million gamers play League of Legends every day. Additionally, the developer claims that during peak hours, the game is played by 500,000 users simultaneously across servers in the United States and Europe. Lastly, an average of 10 games of League of Legends start every second of every day.
Established in 2006, Riot Games--which is composed of talent from Blizzard Entertainment and the mod community that made DOTA--shipped League of Legends in 2009. The game was recently a victim of a LulzSec hack attack that targeted a number of companies. For more on the title, check out GameSpot's review of League of Legends.
