Call of Duty: Elite registers 2 million
Activision's forthcoming online service for shooter series grabs another million users willing to test; scheduled to go live on July 14.
When the beta for Call of Duty: Elite--Activision's online destination for all things Call of Duty--deploys this July, gamers will have more than a few players to interact with.
Activision's social media manager Dan Amrich today updated his blog with news that 2 million people have signed up to beta test Call of Duty: Elite in just two weeks.
The last reported user tally for Elite came last week when the publisher said 1 million had registered in five days. Further, the service trial goes live on July 14, meaning the number still has a month to grow further ahead of its start date.
Call of Duty: Elite--which will be free for all, but also has paid components--was met with some confusion when it was announced. This led the megapublisher to release a FAQ detailing the free components of the service. Unfortunately, because some of the features relate to Modern Warfare 3, Activision has not yet announced what will be offered as part of its premium paid component--believed to cost around $8 a month.
One of the paid services, however, is known. This is a live-action video series that will leverage "top Hollywood talent" and is "dedicated to the Call of Duty community."
