Disney Interactive Media Group has already made a number of deep cuts to realign itself under a more social- and casual-gaming direction following the half-billion-dollar purchase of Playdom last July. Thus far, those cuts have resulted in the closure of Tron: Evolution studio Propaganda Games as well as hundreds of layoffs across other internal development studios, including Epic Mickey creator Junction Point.

Today, PaidContent reports that DIMG has enacted a second round of layoffs, with nearly 80 staff from its online division being put on notice. In a statement provided to PaidContent, Disney called the layoffs "targeted," saying they came "as part of setting a strategic direction for future success in digital media."

DIMG had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment on the matter as of press time.

After a string of quarterly losses, the group grew revenue by 58 percent to $349 million during Disney's October-December quarter. A key contributor to these gains was the success of Epic Mickey, which sold more than 1.3 million units despite its tepid critical reception.
