Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood sets Ubisoft preorder record
French publisher touts Ezio-led, multiplayer-enabled installment in action adventure franchise as highest pre-selling game in its history; franchise sales hit 19 million.
There's still about a month to go before Ubisoft releases Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and already the game is putting up big numbers for the French publisher. This week, Ubisoft announced that the console versions of the game have garnered more worldwide preorders than any other title in the publisher's catalog. (A PC version of Brotherhood is also planned for next year.)
Ubisoft has done its part to incentivize those preorder purchases. In the US, the publisher has offered those who prepurchase Brotherhood access to an exclusive character for the game's multiplayer mode. Further, those who picked up the PS3 version of the game at GameStop were offered advanced access to Brotherhood's multiplayer beta test.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood's single-player component sees Ezio assuming control of an assassins network, commanding the combined effort to rid Rome of its corruption and the Templar order. In the multiplayer mode, players will be able to align themselves with the pharmaceutical company Abstergo--which kidnapped the series' contemporary protagonist Desmond--and aid the Templars.
Thus far, the Assassin's Creed franchise has sold more than 19 million units worldwide. For more on the latest installment, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
