Capcom proclaims Dead Rising 2: Case Zero an XBLA record-breaker
Publisher says zombie action game prologue posted "the best week-one unit sales in the history of all content distributed through Xbox Live Arcade," offers no hard numbers.
In Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, the town of Still Creek has a population of 753. That number has jumped considerably since the game launched late last month, as Capcom today proclaimed the game the fastest-selling Xbox Live Arcade title of all time.
"Capcom is happy to announce that its recently released downloadable title, Dead Rising 2: Case Zero, has broken all records on Xbox Live with the best week one unit sales in the history of all content distributed through Xbox Live Arcade."
The publisher didn't include any numbers in its announcement about sales of the 400 Microsoft point ($5) downloadable prologue to this month's Dead Rising 2. Previous claimants to Live Arcade sales records include Epic Games' Shadow Complex, which sold 200,000 copies in its first week and was touted as having the best one-week total for a single-player game, and Battlefield 1943, which EA said sold 600,000 in its first two weeks between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Case Zero is set between the events of the original Dead Rising and its sequel and introduces the second title's protagonist, Chuck Greene. In the prologue, Greene and his infected daughter are escaping a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas but find themselves stranded in Still Creek when someone steals their truck, along with the drugs that keep Chuck's daughter from turning into one of the shambling undead. Players then have to juggle finding a new mode of transportation with making sure Chuck's daughter gets her medicine and rescuing survivors before the military arrives to quarantine and cleanse the area.
