Bangai-O exploding onto XBLA

D3Publisher confirms Treasure-developed Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury for fall launch with more than 100 stages, editor to make and share levels with friends.

Treasure's Bangai-O series of arcade-style shooters is known for its near-constant barrage of explosions, but the flow of new titles in the franchise has been decidedly less impressive.

In the past 11 years, Bangai-O has seen only three games released: the Japan-exclusive Nintendo 64 original, a 2001 Dreamcast remake, and 2008's Bangai-O Spirits. D3Publisher today took a step to address that shortage, announcing that it would release Bangai-O HD: Missile Fury for Xbox Live Arcade this fall, with Treasure once again handling the game's development.

Like Bangai-O Spirits (the first installment published by D3), Missile Fury will mix arcade shooter action with puzzle-solving gameplay. Also like that title, Missile Fury feature more than 100 stages and a level editor tool that lets users create and share with friends. Missile Fury should sport high-definition graphics and a more straightforward sharing mechanism than its predecessor, which allowed players to convert their levels into an audio file that could be received and translated through another DS's microphone.

When it arrives, Missile Fury will sell for 800 Microsoft points ($10). For more on D3Publisher's first go-around with the series, check out GameSpot's review of Bangai-O Spirits.

    I still want the original game, but I'll definitely get this for just $10. Treasure Studios is just that, " a treasure". I loved Gunstar Heroes (hard as hell to beat), Dynamite Headdy and McDonalds Treasure Land Adventures. All their shooters are incredible. They include games like Mischief Makers, Silhoutte Mirage, Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun.

    Bangai-O Spirits was hands down the best DS game ever. It worries me that the old school look might cause people to pass this one by, because it's a real hidden treasure (pun intended) and there's nothing else like it. If you're reading this and haven't played Bangai-O but love badass action with robots and missiles, you've just found your new favourite game.

    @TheArcade,

    No idea why people thumb down simple statements such as, "Hey! I like this game." Perhaps some people just can't take opinions.

    As far as the new Bangai-O is concerned, I will play Alien Soldier tomorrow to celebrate this wonderful Treasure-related news.

    Awesome news! Bring back all the Treasure Classics! I would kill to be able to play an HD remake of Guardian Heroes with local/online multiplayer. Tempted to dust off the Saturn now...

    Why did monson21502, wolf0, and IceJester45, comments receive a thumbs down? They were just comments complimenting the game. I'm just curious.
