Hulu close to PS3 deal - Report

Less than a month after word of an Xbox 360 agreement, streaming TV service could be announced for Sony's console as soon as next week.

Earlier this month, Reuters reported that Hulu was close to an agreement that would see its online TV streaming site integrated into Xbox Live. However, it might be Sony that seals the deal first.

Bloomberg is reporting today that Sony and Hulu could announce an agreement as early as next week for a paid TV service that would run on the PlayStation 3. The news service cited "two people with knowledge of the talks" for the information, saying they requested anonymity because nothing had been publicly announced. There were no other details from Bloomberg, but the article did reference a Los Angeles Times report that Hulu was planning a subscription service for the site, with a monthly charge of $10.

According to the Reuters report, Hulu will shortly begin charging for many of its hundreds of programs, although select new shows will remain free. Whether the joint venture between News Corp., NBC Universal, and Disney will insist on a flat fee for the service or allow viewers to pay a la carte for single shows is unclear.

I know I won't use this at all because there are numerous websites that let you watch TV shows online for free. I just want my console to play video games and I really don't think that's an unreasonable request. DLC, downloadable games and various other add-ons I think are great for the industry and the developers. But lately it just seems like everything is a new scheme to get money from you. Premium services, streaming video, Netflix, it's all getting a little sickening because a PS3 is a video game console. All the attention is shifted from games to Facebook. Thanks to idiots who need this kind of crap everywhere they go.

I don't understand. Why isn't Hulu free on the PS3 just like with the PC? Isn't it a free, ad supported site? Why does hulu care if you watch it on your computer or using your PS3?

$10 a month? I get it for free on my PS3 and Xbox. In case anyone hasn't seen this, there is a add-on called the playon media server. http://www.playon.tv/playon You can stream Hulu and a ton of other things for free. There is a one time charge though. I think it's $40 but I got it free for trying Gamefly for a month. And that only cost me $10 or something like that.

I already pay for Netflixs & we feel it is a good deal. If Hulu was free with a PSN Plus package I would be more tempted to sign up for Psn plus. I am not spending $120.00 a year for hulu.

People don't even need to get all PS3/360 giddy-giddy pant-wetting must-compensate-for-being-small-in-the-pants fanboyish about this one. Paying for Hulu? Feels contradictory. For everyone. Chances are that PS3 and 360 owners have a computer and know how Hulu works best: on a computer.

It was suppose to be FREE on XBox Live for Gold members. Hopefully that will still be the case. If you have to pay for it on either Live or PSN, no one is going to waste their time with it.

If Hulu can license more content and ax the annoying little commercials I would gladly pay $10 a month. I know it will likely never happen, but if they could snatch shows from the premium channels Direct TV would be bye-bye in an instant.

I don't watch TV, I download new episodes of Vampire Diaries and Sons Of Anarchy but I refuse to sit through TV's BS.....
I hate the ads TV runs, I'm never watching a show more I'm watching ads waiting for the show.....
Ever since XBOX Live added Zune I haven't downloaded any videos. I like that Zune shows everything in HD but I resent how they have taken over completely the video aspect of the 360.

If Hulu charged money, but in turn gained enough traction that even more content signed on I would seriously consider axing my cable service and subscribing. Being able to watch from the 360 or PS3 that are already connected to my HDTV would just be icing on the cake.

It really depends on what Hulu is offering. I have cable and a lot of Hulu's primetime content, shows from ABC, Fox and NBC, is now available on Video on Demand without as many quirky commercial ads. With Netflix streaming on top of that. I don't see that I need anymore paid services for my PS3. Now if some ot the programing remains free this will be a welcome addition.

@White_wolf_eye Sorry to inform you but PSN+ won't give you a game of "YOUR" choosing if they did that they would not make any money off their big PSN games now would they? You will get what they feel like giving you each month. PSN is its still far behind Xbox Live in service quality. Not to mention cheaters run rampant on PSN with no recourse since there is not a "report a player" option.

Not surprisingly most forums reading levels are low are they just don't finish the article (stupid add). So, for all you lazy people out there let me quote from this article above. "Los Angeles Times report that Hulu was planning a subscription service for the site, with a monthly charge of $10. " That's right! Your comments about going to hulu on the PC because it is free is invalid as they will have a fee for that as well.

This is the stupidest thing in the world. You could stream Hulu on the PS3 browser less than a year ago, then someone either at Sony or Hulu decided to make PS3 browser incompatible with Hulu. How reasonable does it sound going form free Hulu, to no Hulu, to paid Hulu?

First of all, Hulu may charge for this, not PSN or Live. Also, are you getting your info on PSN+ from Candyland? Nothing you said is correct.

Lol if this is free to PSN plus, and its true you can get a free game (of YOUR choosing) every month along with unlimited music downloads then PSn plus is just ganna destroy xbox live gold.

It seems people are a little misinformed. The Hulu free service allows you to watch Hulu as you always have been which allows you to watch the latest 5 episodes of a TV show and only on your PC. The paid service allows you to watch an entire run of a TV show and you can watch it through your PS3. So technically, not the same thing.

Hulu won't be free forever though. They'll even charge PC users to access Hulu soon.
