Fallout: New Vegas preorders scavenging in-game gear
Bethesda details retailer-specific digital bonuses for prepurchasers of Obsidian-developed action RPG, due this fall.
Obsidian Entertainment's Fallout: New Vegas might not yet have a hard launch date, but publisher Bethesda Softworks is already gearing up for the game's Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC retail release. In May, the publisher announced the New Vegas Collector's Edition, one that will include, among other pack-ins, branded poker chips, playing cards, and Dark Horse Comics' game-based graphic novel All Roads.
Today, Bethesda announced a range of retailer-specific incentives for those who preorder any version of the action role-playing game. While the particulars of each preorder pack are different, they all include a range of in-game gear, including armor, weapons, and supplies.
The Classic Pack will be available at GameStop, and it includes the armored Vault 13 suit, a Vault 13 canteen, a weathered 10mm pistol, and five stimpaks. Amazon preorderers gain the Tribal Pack, which contains tribal raiding armor, a broad machete, five bleak venom doses, and 10 throwing spears.
Those who pick up the game through Wal-Mart or Steam get the Caravan Pack, offering lightweight leather armor, a sturdy caravan shotgun, four repair kits, and a pair of binoculars. Lastly, the Mercenary Pack is available through Best Buy, and it brings with it lightweight metal armor, a mercenary's grenade rifle, three super stimpaks, and three doctors bags.
The follow-up to 2008's Fallout 3, New Vegas is set in the Mojave Wasteland and casts players in the role of a courier who gets shot in the head over a package and is left for dead. After recovering, players will be free to roam the desert, exploring new areas, modifying weapons, and getting wrapped up in the larger conflict between the New California Republic and the slave-trading Caesar's Legion.
Fallout: New Vegas is currently scheduled to ship this fall. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
