It's been seven years since Remedy Entertainment's last release, Max Payne 2. After Alan Wake arrives on the Xbox 360 next week, the wait for Remedy's next work will be significantly shorter.

On its official Twitter feed today, Remedy announced that the first downloadable content for Alan Wake will arrive on the Xbox Live Marketplace July 27. New copies of the game will come with a single-use code that will allow players to download the extra content free of charge. It's unclear how much the add-on will cost for those who purchase the game used.

Spooky.

Alan Wake is Remedy's first game since 2003's Max Payne 2 and follows writer Alan Wake as he retreats to the sleepy town of Bright Falls. Set in the small Northwestern town of Bright Falls, the psychological thriller pits Wake against a mysterious darkness afflicting the townsfolk, turning them into nightmarish specters. The only way to break through an enemy's darkness shield is with light, and gameplay focuses on fighting off ghostly foes with flashlights, flares, and other dark-dispelling tools.
