Madden NFL 10 picks Saints for Super Bowl XLIV

EA's football sim predicts New Orleans' Drew Brees-led squad will emerge victorious over the Colts on Sunday, 35-31.

Electronic Arts may have fumbled the ball with its Madden NFL-simulated pick for Super Bowl XLII, but in all fairness, who could've expected the Giants to come out on top of that one? With Super Bowl XLIII, though, EA's Madden series returned to form, calling the game nearly exactly as it went down: Pittsburgh dominated the first half, the Cardinals surged in the fourth quarter, but the Steelers ultimately took home the championship.

With the New Orleans Saints staring down the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in Super Bowl XLIV, EA has announced the results of its yearly Madden NFL simulation. And while Peyton Manning's crew is favored to take home the Vince Lombardi Trophy, Madden NFL 10 predicts a narrow Saints victory, 35-31. The championship would be the first in the team's 46-year history.

EA's Madden NFL series has accurately called five of the last six Super Bowl winners. The publisher notes that Madden NFL 10 also nailed both the NFC Championship and AFC Championship games this year.

According to this year's Super Bowl simulation, the Colts will lead 24-21 going into the fourth quarter. Saints running back Reggie Bush begins the fourth by returning a 42-yard punt for a touchdown. Indianapolis responds late in the quarter with a Peyton Manning-to-Joseph Addai touchdown pass. But, in an MVP-winning showing, Drew Brees hits tight end David Thomas on an 11-yard touchdown pass, cinching the victory.

They got the team right. It was getting close near the end. It almost seemed like they were going to go into overtime.

It's not completely random, not really 50/50. The game does have (at least) the stats of the players which will affect the outcome of the simulation. Obviously it's not how the real game would play out, especially if the score is close like this one, but if Madden says it's 40 to 7 the team with 40 probably has way better stats so it will most likely win.

Boo to the Saints! They don't deserve to be in the Super Bowl. I hope the Colts destroy them, and yes I am a Vikings fan!

hmm... this must means the colts are gonna win because last year Madden picked cardinals to win ahah

The X factor in this game will be the defenses. We all know both offenses are potent and capable of scoring on a whim. It's gonna come down to which team does a better job of stopping the other's offense. The Colts defense is slightly better at stop yard progression, but the Saints defense is really good at taking the ball away. Either way, it should make for a good SB. The two top tier teams from both conferences going for the Lombardi, that's how it should be every year.

well since this is madden and not GameDay, this means nothing to me. "Game b4 the Game" was my source for super bowl predictions since it was always right. Every year the player who won that game, their team won the super bowl the next day.

Agreed. Colts will likely win due to better defensive play, with or without a 100% healthy Freeney. What's more, Madden predictions have a history of being inaccurate: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6185419.html

@ShadowXStorm, as a passer I agree but as a quarterback he is not there yet. Manning can manage the offense very well, and reads defenses like no other. I am rooting for the Saints though.

Colts all the way. Saints are good too but Peyton Manning+Colts is just seems to me like they are the better team. But, what many of us have learned is that even underdogs can beat the top dog. Besides i refuse to listen to EA the ones who killed NFL games.

@ Reiken37: So it stands to reason that if EA called 5 of the last 6 correctly with a 50% mathematical chance of success, it's due time for another loss on their part, therefore, the Colts will win.

The Saints are a good team, but I don't think they can pull out a win against a veteran Colt's team after 60 minutes in the Superbowl. I just won't believe it. I'll be cheering for the Saints though. =]

Peyton is in his prime. Every single game this year....a team might have came out on top in the first half...but it just seems like Peyton figures out their defense. It's incredible. The vikings turned the ball over in the 5 times, yet the score was only 31-28, in overtime. It will be a blowout....Go Colts.

Do I bealive in coincidence? No
Do I bealive in fortelling the future? No
Do I wan the Saints to win? Yes

With a 50% chance to call each game, EA easily has gotton lucky with 5 of the last 6. If was every super bowl they call bieng nailed, well then there might be something to it. But anyways, go Saints!

I like the Colts 38-35 but the Madden Prediction was only wrong once (Super Bowl between Giants and Patriots), so it could be likely the Saints will win.

i think the saints are gonna win too but i would have liked to see the vikings go against the colts. Vikings had the saints all they had to do was kick the FG but they didnt. I swear the NFL seems rigged to me at times all the same teams go to the SB year after year.

    Saints all the way baby.

  • RazerBlade13

    Posted Feb 3, 2010 1:55 pm GMT

I chose Saints for two reason:

    1) Colts beat my Patriots, so Manning's better pay...dearly.

    2) This is the Saints 1st Super Bowl. Brees deserves it since Manning already has one ring.

I wish EA would post a play-by-play of the simulation game somewhere. I would check after every play and see just how accurate it is compared to the real thing.

Can't really call either of these teams the underdog considering they are the teams with the top 2 records, but I'm hoping it's a good game. I'd rather see the Colts win it mainly because I thought the Vikings should have won, but oh well. I hardly care for either of these teams, so whatever happen, happnes.

  • JayQproductions

if the saints play anything like they did against the Vikings the Colts will blow them out. but i think it's gonna be a close game the first half but the 2nd half always belongs to the colts, Manning takes the first half figuring out the other team then after the half he begins to pick them apart every drive. final score will be Colts 34 Saints 27 because no game can simulate what Peyton Manning does, best QB to ever play the game and smartest player to ever play the game.

I want the Saints to win because there underdogs and i usally root for underdogs but Ive never been right except for the Giants(My favorite team non the less)but This year looks to be the closest Super Bowl in Awhile.

  • XanderZane

    Posted Feb 3, 2010 12:59 pm GMT

I picked the Saints as well. But that's only because I don't care for the Colts after my Patriots loss to them previously. I'm glad the Giants got snuffed out too. So I'll go with the Saints. I don't really care for their team either, but I'd rather they win then the Colts. I would have rather seen the Vikings make it. Brett Favre blew it again. All he had to do was run 5-10yd in a wide open field and then run out of bounds. Instead he tries to do an Elway and make a pass across the opposite side of the field. If he had been looking to the right, he would have seen his other receiver who was wide open just 8 yds away. After having 5 turnover and I can't remember how many interceptions, the Vikings didn't deserve to win that game anyways, but they easily could off and Favre didn't screw up.
