PS3 controller delay won't impact RE5: Gold Edition in NA
Capcom confirms enhanced version of survival horror shooter is still on track for March 9 release stateside following push of Sony's new motion-sensing gamepad.
When Capcom announced the Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition in Japan for a spring launch, the publisher said that the new content would be augmented by Sony's new camera-based motion-sensing controller for the PlayStation 3. And though the same functionality was never confirmed for North America, speculation arose on Tuesday that Capcom's game could be delayed. That's when Sony announced that its new controller would miss its previously spring 2010 launch window, instead arriving in the fall.
Today, Capcom confirmed to GameSpot that it will not be pushing the release date for Resident Evil 5: Alternative Edition (known as the Gold Edition stateside) back from its scheduled March 9 release through Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. Notably, the publisher also maintained that it has yet to announce the motion-sensing controller functionality for North America.
"Capcom has not announced any compatibility between Sony's motion controller and Resident Evil 5 in North America," a Capcom representative told GameSpot. "The release of this product will be unaffected by the delay in our territory and is still on track for a March 9 release with the individual pieces of downloadable content released prior."
The downloadable Gold Edition features all the content of the quintuple-platinum survival horror shooter and sees the addition of a new episode featuring returning franchise heroes Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. The episode will be based on the flashback scene from the original RE5, where the two characters infiltrate the Spencer estate in Europe.
