Sgt. Pepper DLC storms Beatles: Rock Band next week

Eight remaining tracks from Fab Four's classic album available beginning Nov. 17 for $2 a track or $13.49 as a bundle.

Last month marked a milestone for the Beatles, as the band allowed its music to be digitally distributed for the first time with the Abbey Road downloadable content for The Beatles: Rock Band. It turns out the wait for the band's second wave of digital distribution will be much shorter.

Harmonix and MTV Games today announced that the eight tracks from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band that weren't included on the game disc will be downloadable on the Xbox 360 and Wii starting November 17, with PlayStation 3 players able to get the songs on November 19.

Among the soon-to-be-released tracks are hits like "A Day in the Life" and "When I'm Sixty-Four." Unlike the Abbey Road downloadable content, all eight of the new songs will be available for download a la carte for $1.99 (MSP 160). PS3 and 360 players can also purchase them together as part of a bundle for $13.49 (MSP 1,080).

The full track listing for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band follows below. Tracks included on The Beatles: Rock Band disc are marked with a *.

1. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band*
2. With A Little Help From My Friends*
3. Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds*

5. Fixing A Hole

mwjr, with a cd, you only get the audio. With Beatles dlc you get both a audio and visual experience that you can interact with. So I understand why they are more expensive. Plus it's the Beatles we are talking about and they make dreamscapes for each one.

So, as a Wii user I have to pay about $16 to get the 8 remaining songs from Sgt. Pepper? That's more than an actual full CD.

Heck, even if you can get the full CD on the 360 or PS3 at a discount, you're still paying more than you would for a regular CD.

It's hard to understand how Abbey Road was $16 for considerably more songs, yet this only comes with 8 and it's $13.49 with the bundle.

Maybe I'm just looking too much into it, I wouldn't mind that much to download one of the best albums of all time. Still, if it doesn't offer that much in terms of gameplay I can't be too excited for it.

When are they going to add 'A Hard days Night' ? The best Beatles album by a country mile! Peppers just doesnt fit in well with the 'Rock Band' concept

not sure how it works but when you buy one of those 250 dollar rockband bundles doesnt it come with these type of dlc in the box? No, we got a download code for a shirt in the box extra and that was the "exclusive" content. (that is until they decide to sell it on the Avatar store if they aren't already)

At first, this kinda seems like a rip-off, but then I remember that I'm paying $14 to play the single greatest album of all time on Rock Band...that's definitely worth $14 in my book.

this is asinine. they planned this, there's no reason why it could't have been put in the game originally.

I'll be interested in seeing the charts for A Day In The Life. The notes we'll have to play during the crescendos is bound to be maddening.

Fantastic visual direction aside, I think they "jumped the shark" with how much they thought they could squeeze out of the customers with this DLC crud. As much as I love the Beatles music, I will not be buying any of the Beatles DLC.

@nurnberg: I've read a million complaints of how this DLC or that DLC should have been in this or that game to begin with. People have made that complaint about almost all of the DLC for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (one of the first console games to offer purchasable DLC), even though the original game was rich in content. My answer is that, if you didn't think that there was enough content in the game to justify the cost, why did you buy it? There weren't that many more songs in the original Rock Band.

Creating songs for this version of Rock Band are considerably more work than for the others, inasmuch as they contain full animations of The Beatles and song-specific background animations. I'm sure that licensing Beatles songs is much more expensive than licensing the ton of songs by little known bands which comprise most of the tracks on the other versions of the game (I never heard of *any* of the bands in that 18-song bonus pack for Rock Band 2, though I've enjoyed playing a lot of them). AFAIC they have every right to sell additional tracks as DLC. With this pack you can buy only the ones that you want and you don't have to buy any of them if you don't want to.

"She's Leaving Home" (one of my favorite Beatles songs) has *no* guitar or drum parts. There are about 3 Beatles songs on which they play no instruments and use a "double string quartet", with Paul, John and George singing. One of the others where they do this is "Eleanor Rigby"; I think that there was a third but I can't remember.

There was at least one song on the game disc which had no guitar in which the guitar part is mapped to a violin.

I got all of the songs from Abbey Road songs now i need Sgt. Pepper's songs!!! (i waste a lot of money)

  • nurnberg

I don't see any justifiable reason why these songs were not in the game from the start.

Within You, Without You is also in the original game.

This leaves a small handful of songs for fourteen bucks. I love the Beatles, but the pricing is hard to fathom. And while most of the new songs are classics, they don't really fit the Rock Band format very well. Day In the Life and When I'm Sixty-Four barely even have guitar or drum parts.

'Tis a shame that everything Beatles-related has to have a premium price tag.
