Trials HD judges 300,000
RedLynx confirms sales milestone for Xbox Live Summer of Arcade stunt racer, first DLC pack en route.
Earlier this week, Microsoft touted impressive sales growth for its Summer of Arcade Xbox Live promotion. According to the Xbox 360 maker, Summer of Arcade saw a 200 percent sales increase over the same promotion in 2008, an event which itself grew monthly revenues by 67 percent over August 2007's digital-distribution take.
Microsoft noted that one of the big winners of the month was RedLynx's Trials HD, which briefly held the record for most-downloaded single-player game before being eclipsed by fellow Summer of Arcade title Shadow Complex. Quantifying that feat in terms of unit sales, RedLynx CEO Tero Virtala told UK gaming site CVG today that Trials HD has sold 300,000 units since the Excitebike-style stunt-racing game debuted to high marks on August 12.
"We're a smaller, 25-person multiplatform studio, and for us, this is an excellent example of how digital download space opens up significant opportunities that might not otherwise be available for creative and talented smaller teams," Virtala said. The studio executive also noted that RedLynx is currently at work on a batch of downloadable content for Trials HD, though no release date for the add-on pack has been set.
