Empire: Total War on Warpath in Oct.

Steam-exclusive add-on campaign introduces five Native American nations, new single-player mode, units, technologies.

Sega and The Creative Assembly may have announced Napoleon: Total War as part of GamesCom 2009, but the duo isn't quite done skirmishing in this year's Empire: Total War. This week, Sega announced Empire: Total War - The Warpath Campaign will be available exclusively through Valve's online platform Steam in October for $9.99.

As its title indicates, The Warpath Campaign introduces into Total War's hallmark action-strategy gameplay five new Native American factions: the Iroquois, the Huron, the Plains, the Pueblo, and the Cherokee. The new nations will receive their own North America-centric single-player campaigns set in new locations and an alternate start date from Empire: Total War proper. Gamers can also play as chieftain of one of the tribes in online multiplayer matches.

The Warpath Campaign will also introduce a variety of new units and technologies. Elite units coming with the expansion include the Mohawk Elite Warriors, Cheyenne Dog Soldiers, and Navajo Scout Warriors. Two new agent classes, the shaman and the scout, will offer new infiltration and sabotage capabilities. The expansion pack also features 18 tribal technologies, ranging from spirit medicine to the call of the wild to dream walking.

I would really like to play as an Indian tribe in the game, however I don't have a credit card to buy the DLC through Steam.

You do not need to be connected online to play, only to install. Was still a pain for me though. I travel for work and play on my laptop. The internet connections I get on the road are often inconsistant and slow. I had to fight with it for two days before it was finally installed.

Could have included the Algonquin, Micmac and Ojibwe too.

Anyone know if there will be something with the American Civil War. I was a big fan of Civil War Generals 2 and Gettysburg back in the 90s. Not easy to make a game around but could be fun if done right. Any thoughts on what the next total war franchise could be? I know it is early. Hoping it could be "Bronze Age" total war taking place in the fertile crescent in the second millenium BC. Include the ancient Egyptions, Akkadians, Hitittes, Nubians, etc. Or maybe "China" total war from the time before China was unified. Toss in the Mongols and you have a good game.

A Native American expansion, expanding on the part of the original game that worked the least.
People have been clamouring for a Napoleonics Total War game for years, and with the release of Empire we could be hopeful that Napoleonics might be the logical expansion.
Evidently not. I guess an American-centric game makes them more money, even though in comparison a Napoleonics game has far more scope to be epic, interesting, and memorable from a gameplay perspective.

I agree with you ZedX-14Pilot, everyone was talking about those bugs, but i didint saw any of them with 4 months of playing. only one time in the episode 3 o RTI the game bugged, but i restarted the map and worked just fine. i complain too about the online campaign that they dont release, but i like expansions too, but native americans?!! aw come on! at that time they were very unimportant, there are so many events we could talk! but no, native north americans... dam, but anyway, for 10 bucks its still worth i think

It is kind of disapointing that they are going to release an expansion before they get the online mulitplayer campaign working. You know, the feature they made a big deal about several months before release, delayed the game a month for, and then said they'd have it active shortly after release. Game is great fun, but I was definitely lookin' forward to that feature.

Once they patch this game up properly and seriously address the performance issues, I'll give it a shot. I played the demo and liked the mechanics well enough...but as a longtime TW fan, I'm hoping we get a sequel to ROME. That hope is completely unfounded, but still...

I don't know why so many people complain about performance issues on their rigs, or bugs, as I am running GREAT on a 9800 with an athlon 64 bit X2 and 4 gigs of ram?I think most people complaining about this game are doing so because they can't play a pirated version. Maybe... Either way, I do like this game. I only wish I had started playing these sorts of games a long time ago as I am behind the curve due to lack of experience. Speking of wich, I better go practice!

DLC doesn't work with PC gamers. We'll see how this goes. At least they're charging a price for it and not some BS point system that rips you off.

I was waiting soo long for Empire Total War and was so disappointed when I got around to actually playing the game which had too many bugs in it.
It surprised me that they even released the game. And when they did they released it on STEAM!!!

My friend has this game and I've played it, but I refuse to buy a game that requires me to connect to the internet to play by myself for no reason.
It is a shame they involved steam in this because they lost some customers from it.

the game has soooooooo many flaws its actually unbarable to try and play. And its pretty hard to install the user mods that try (bless thier hearts) to fix this broken game.

I wont be getting this until i hear the all clear that Sega and CA fix thier crap.

Do I like Empire Total War... Yes... Do I like the expansions... Yes... Am I going to buy this one... No!.. Why?... Is it because it's a bad idea?... No... I was actually hoping the would release a native american expansions... Even a Civil War expansion would be cool. So Why? It's because I feel like I've been lied to. Ooh... Buy the extra units pack... Ooh... Buy the Native American expansion... Yay.. But let me ask this... WHERE IS THE ONLINE CAMPAIGN MODE EXPANSION WE WERE PROMISED FOR "FREE" SINCE THIS GAME WAS ORIGINALLY RELEASED? Does that sound annoyed enough or not?... Maybe Creative should concentrate on keeping their original promises before making new promises.

I'm glad to see that the North American continent is potentially going to get more use. I hope it revives melee, which I think was weak in this game of the TW franchise. The best thing I liked about this Empire:TW that really surprised me was its introduction of Steam. I thought Steam was going to be another sneaky DRM, but it defied the stereotype and has provided a good support to buy and play games.

Melee fighting in Empire Total War is a bit blah as is. Introducing an expansion that'll put a lot of focus on that might not turn out so well in my opinion. But saying that, I'll certainly still be buying it and giving it a try - Creative Assembly haven't yet made a game I didn't want to play so I'm willing to give it a chance.
