Now that the spectacle that is the Electronic Entertainment Expo is over, it's time to take stock and look at some of the games that gamers can lay their hands on in the here and now. While there isn't a huge number of significant releases this week, gamers with a penchant for hunting ghosts can finally lay their hands on the long awaited Ghostbusters The Video Game, on both the PS2 and PS3.

After being dropped by Activision-Blizzard in 2008, the title got picked up by Atari, which later announced a June release date. A month before release it emerged that Sony had picked up a timed exclusive for the title in Europe, much to the annoyance of budding 360-owning Ghostbusters. Be sure to check out the full review of the game before parting with your hard-earned cash.

This week also sees the launch of Rock Band Unplugged, the first in the billion-dollar series to hit the PSP. The game offers a unique take on the rhythm genre, allowing players to switch between guitar, bass, drums, and vocals on the fly and keep the rhythm by pressing the PSP buttons in sync with the now-familiar scrolling fret board. Those still hanging on to their PS2s will be pleased to see the release of Wipeout Pulse on the console, even if it is a conversion of a PSP game. With 24 new reversible tracks, new ships and weapons, and online racing, there should be plenty to keep gamers occupied while waiting for the elusive PS3 price drop.

If that's all too mainstream, then be sure to check out Let's Tap on the Wii, developed by Sonic the Hedgehog cocreator Yuji Naka's Prope studio. The game doesn't use the Wii Remote in the conventional sense, but instead players lay the remote on a box and tap on it. It was memorably launched with some fanfare at TGS 2008 as the game so simple even penguins could play it. There are four different modes in the game, including an obstacle-course race (Tap Runner), a DDR-inspired dance-off (Rhythm Tap), and a Jenga-style game (Silent Blocks).

Too lazy a gamer to head down to the shops? Fear not, as Xbox Live Arcade is due to release Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers and Sam & Max Save the World this Friday. Magic: The Gathering combines arcade-style gameplay with a solid narrative as players command an arsenal of creatures and spells, in both single-player and online modes. Those looking for comedy can take solace in Sam & Max Save the World, a virtual box set of the first six episodes of the series, complete with surreal settings and offbeat jokes.

PSN fans don't have any new game releases to look forward to this week but can nab the brand-new Spinal Tap track pack for rock band, which contains three tracks from the band's new album, Back From the Dead, and the classic track "Saucy Jack." Understandably excited about the release, Tap bassist Derek Smalls said, "Tap has always gone where the audience is. We hope this time the audience reciprocates. Whatever that means."

New games aren't for everyone though, and retro gamers will be pleased to find the N64 classic Super Smash Bros. on the Wii virtual console. A fighting game for the Nintendo generation, the game allows players to beat up their friends as their favourite Nintendo character, including favourites such as Fox McCloud, Mario, and Zelda star Link.
