LOS ANGELES--In the sports genre, Tecmo is synonymous with Tecmo Bowl, the recently revived football franchise that gained acclaim on its first run for the original Nintendo Entertainment System. However, as part of the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo this week, the publisher made a move on a new sports genre, announcing NBA Unrivaled for the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

Tecmo's got the NBA license.
Tecmo's got the NBA license.

Due this year, NBA Unrivaled will feature the full NBA license, which means all 2009 NBA teams, players with current stats, and logos. As for the game itself, Tecmo describes the game as having a "contemporary retro" design and an "old-school look and feel."

NBA Unrivaled will include a multiplayer component that offers head-to-head play, as well as two-player cooperative versus a computer-controlled opponent. The game will also offer a dynamic difficulty level that will respond to each player's skill level.

Tecmo did not reveal a price point for NBA Unrivaled.
