Wolfenstein blitzes stores August 4

Raven Software revamp of shooter franchise gets dated for PC, Xbox 360, PS3; original Wolfenstein 3D gets XBLA, PSN release next week.

Nazis, beware. Activision today announced that the revamp of Wolfenstein is set for an August 4 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Developed by Raven Software (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Singularity), Wolfenstein drops players into the army boots of B.J. Blazkowicz, who is once again sent behind enemy lines to thwart Hitler's occult ambitions. For this go-around, players will be able to fight fire with fire, using the power of a sought-after artifact to combat Hitler's own freakish army of evil.

With the newest installment in the series still months away, eager gamers will be able to pass the time by brushing up on the franchise's 3D roots. Activision will release a downloadable console edition of the original PC shooter Wolfenstein 3D next week.

Wolfenstein 3D sees players blasting their way through 60 levels of carnage on their way to a face-to-face encounter with Mecha-Hitler. The game will be available June 3 on the Xbox 360 and June 4 on the PS3. Wolfenstein 3D will be available for $5 (400 Microsoft points).

If it is not co-op Multiplayer my group of friends will not buy it.
Anyone know if it is co-op or player versus player stupidity?

I liked Return to Castle Wolfenstein, RTCW: ET, and RTCW: Tides of War, so I might get this game, but I want to see how it will turn out before buying, but it does look awesome, but I'm sure only the true Wolfenstein fans like myself will probably enjoy the game, or I might be wrong, but it looks like fun to me.

good ol' castle wolfenstein back on PC is 1993...(???) with the most advanced control scheme of the arrow keys, right control, space bar, and the number keys......those were the days

At last... I have been waiting so long. I hope the voice acting and soundtrack live up to the standards set by RTCW -- an underrated game that still ranks among my all time favorites. I look forward to playing this on my flat screen.

It's great to know the game's release date, but please ... Don't Rush It. The 2001st's RTCW's multi-player was a blast, but the single player lacked 2 qualities of a good game - the gameplay and the story. The graphics were amazing though, but I think 9.2 was a bit too forgiving. I do have high hopes for ID, it is one of my favorite developers, and I love Wolfenstein(especially the original), good luck ID.

I hope Raven Soft. will do well with this...

Also, people should shut their stink holes about graphics, look at Doom 3, it has graphical mods. If you aren't satisfied, then start modding...problem solved.

Just check the visuals at the promo site, looks great (8.5 for sure) unless the story line is crap.....never know until you play. Hopefully we can take a level 1 test drive via XBOX Live and see for ourselves.

I am really looking forward to this series being amped up for 2009. The only problem is who is making it. I seriously hope RAVEN doesn't screw this up. If Bioware (Bioshock) had re-created this series I would be salivating all the way to the store. Let's see what the promo's visuals show us first.

Console gamers will rent this game since graphics are outdated and multiplayer is lacking or just cookie cutter same old. Pc gamers will buy when price drop while pc gamers from European countries, Asian countries, and Russia will pirate as usual.

Hope this is eventually considered a good title upon its release, interesting, more so, being from Raven Software who have a decent history of games. And Wolfenstein 3D at a price of 400 MS is darn hard to resist a buy.

I thought RTCW single player was good for the first three or four levels, but then as you progressed to the later levels it got alot worse. It is nice they want to relive/re-do Wolfenstein, but I'm not going to purchase this. There are many other titles I am interested in alot more than this.

Awesome!! I recently got into Wolfenstein by getting the original Xbox game - Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Tides Of War a few months back. Awesome game, and no matter what reviews this game gets, it looks very good and I enjoyed RTCW so I know I will be purchasing this one on day one!

I like the series, so I'll probably buy this @ day one, unless it gets horrible reviews from several game sites. I know Gamspot is real strict on giving games a good rating, unless its a big franchise game like GTA or Halo, so I'll have to check a few sites.

wolfenstein was the first major fps on the old pcs...but hovertank 3d also created by id software was the true first fps game and then catacombs came along using the same engine with revamped graphics and then wolfenstein came along using better engine based off of catacombs then you got your doom wich just revoloutionized the fps genre then blake stone so on and so forth they even had a sequel to the original Wolfenstein called Spear of Destiny where you play good ol' Bj Blazkowicz, and find the spear of destiny..huzzah

This game has been in the works for several years, how is this game too quick???

Remember 6 of those 60 levels are secrets. The first one is on Episode 1 Level 2 in the same room as the exit elevator. Enter the room and push the wall on the right. Easy to find. The rest are a pain in the A#$.
