Big Kojima announcement coming May 18

[UPDATE 2] Famitsu and now-live teaser site indicate Konami's Metal Gear Solid studio is unveiling something on Monday in Japan--is it the rumored Xbox 360 MGS4, Zone of the Enders 3, or a new IP?

Hot on the heels of rumors of a new Konami Xbox 360 exclusive and a Metal Gear Solid 4 port comes apparent proof that a major Kojima Productions announcement is imminent. Multiple online sources have posted scans of a two-page advertisement attributed to this week's issue of Famitsu magazine, Japan's top gaming publication.

The scan (pictured) shows a bleak landscape of dead grass and leafless shrubs under a bleak gray sky. On the horizon, a pair of figures can be made out, along with a low-lying building and a road. Besides the Konami and Kojima Productions logos, the ad has only two pieces of text: the date "2009.5.18"--next Monday--and the URL www.konami.jp/kojima_pro/next. As of press time, the URL only brought up a "not found" error page from the official Japanese Konami Web site.

Unfortunately, that's all the information available about the upcoming Konami project. However, if it is one of the two rumored 360 projects, Microsoft will have some wind in its sails coming into its June 1 press conference at the 2009 Electronic Entertainment Expo. Then again, the last time an Xbox 360 version of MGS4 was rumored, it ended up being Metal Gear Solid Touch for the iPhone.

Another possibility is a new installment in the Kojima-produced Zone of the Enders series, which has been dormant since 2003's Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner. At his 2009 Game Developers Conference keynote address, studio head Hideo Kojima also teased that the "next MGS" might be a spin-off starring recurring hero Raiden.

[UPDATE] Unfortunately, nothing will be official until next Monday, as a cheery Konami rep would only say, "You'll have to wait until May 18th!"

[UPDATE 2] The teaser site is now live, and shows the same barren landscape and cloudy sky as the scans of the magazine ad. The header for the site merely says "KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS 'NEXT.'"

    I'll laugh so hard if Kojima Productions reveal that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance will not be on Xbox 360.

    this will prove my point even more that Xbox360 are the biggest biters in the world of gaming. can't make a great exclusive anymore to save their so they have to take MEGS too.

    Oh my god, ok seriously i own an xbox but have spent long hours playing the mgs brand and msg4 is by far the best experience i have ever had in a game, msg5 i will wet my pants and buy a 50 inch lcd and a ps3 tomorrow and experience utter filth from my partner but deep down know it was the only thing i could do...... sorry xbox fans but ps3 rocks as much as the xbox !!!!!!!! peace out and quest for glory fellers i salut you !! caio

    it is just a rumor,mgs was always and will be an exclusive for playstation systems,why don't microsoft announce gears of war 3,or something,and how would an xbox fan know anything about the mgs story,he will just start the game and not knowing anything of what is happening,and will mgs work on xbox360,as it is in ps3,i don't think so,may be they will remove some parts of the game,xbox owners just get over it.

    riseagainst1212 mgs4 is only 40g ,and the dvd is 8.5g so it would fit on 5 discs .i don't have a problem with that i just wanna play.

    i really doubt it would be for thw xbox 360, because, well, you would have like 10 discs, and kojima did the same thing with metal gear solid 2, and that was a fail, why do they think it would be any different now.

    360 dosent need MGS4 with all those 360 Fanboys who where constantly dissing MGS4 saying it sucks, let them keep their Halo, and Gears of Wars, Maybe that will make them stop being fanboys and just Enjoy having a console and just play their console and be happy and leave other people Wii, PS3, 360, and PC alike alone that is all i have to say

    has anyone else thought that from the images on the count down it probably wont be a 360 port of MGS4 because there's no such landscape in MGS4...

    i hope you know that last year Konami said that after MGS4, for now on they will ONLY make MULIPLATFORM games. So dont get your fanboy pull-ups in a bunch when they say its not a PS3 exclusive.

    thnx for telling me what the cap says (millatary without boarders) so mabye its the build up to the creation of outer haven. mabye the raiden is raikov or gray fox? or big boss is solidus? a new squad based MGS where u are part of the PMCs? or Rat partol? RTS where u lead the uprising on shadow moses or form outer haven?mabye the final expansion for MGO?

    Why does it have to be on the xbox 360. The mgs trilogy should stay on playstation consoles. Then the xbox 360 would get the same credit has the ps3. That sucks. I bet xbox 360 owners are getting excited now.

    Just had a look at the website. Gave me goosebumps. It's so errie and brilliant! Just the thought of a possible MGS5 game! is good enough!

    On the new teaser site you are also able to se some letters or numbers if you just wait a little, but I can't make out what it means. E 3 S/5 e. One of the two first might also be M tipped on the side, but I really have no idea..
