Report: Faith and a .45 on hold

Chili Con Carnage creator Deadline Games said to be unable to find publisher for Bonnie-and-Clyde-inspired shooter, stalling development.

Just over a year ago, Total Overdose and Chili Con Carnage developer Deadline Games unholstered Faith and a .45, the Danish studio's first effort for the current generation of consoles. Unfortunately, it appears as if the action game has hit a jam.

PS3 Attitude reports this week that development on Faith and a .45 has been placed on hold. According to a source within the company, Deadline has been unable to secure a publisher for the game, a situation that has led a number of independent developers in the past 12 months--including Iron Lore, Factor 5, and Free Radical--to fold or make substantial staff cuts. Deadline Games had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment as of press time.

A new intellectual property, Faith and a .45 is a cooperative multiplayer-centric shooter that draws its inspiration from the real-life travails of famed bank robbers Bonnie and Clyde. The game follows Luke and Ruby, a couple of outlaws in love who are crisscrossing the country with guns at the ready. Looking to stop Luke and Ruby's spree will be a nefarious oilman and the oppressive forces at his command.

According to Deadline Games' Web site, the developer still has a number of other titles in development, including a range of family-friendly games based on the Hanna-Barbera license. Deadline is also at work on the Warner Bros. Interactive-published Watchmen film tie-in for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

I had a lot of hopes for this game (still do!), but it appears it's just going to languish in development purgatory.

Oh dear... This does NOT sound like a good game.
Maybe the idea would have worked a little better in RPG form? I don't know.
Oh well, I'm happy with Baldur's gate ATM!

    @ ScionofEntropy

But having a motive for what they are doing is so cliche. It would be nice to see some sort of story in a game or movie where the main characters or the antagonists are doing what they are doing for the hell of it, or simply because they find it entertaining.

    ia_mc:

No, they have to be rebels WITH a cause. People won't care or sympathize with them at all if they're just outlaws for the sake of it. Who cares if it makes them less cool? We need motivation here.

Gotta love game stories. They're bank robbers, but their enemies are "a nefarious oilman and the oppressive forces at his command." Can't bank robbers just be bank robbers rather than holy crusaders out for justice?

Can't believe a talented studio like this can't secure a publisher, but that's exactly the same thing I thought about Iron Lore . Still seems like a cool game, hope everything works out (fingers crossed).

  • AC_pilot

    Posted Jan 31, 2009 9:21 pm PT

Oh, maybe its because the people who made Titan Quest, the guys who made LOTRO, and the guys who made Timesplitters are either shutting down or downsizing because of the same situation? Just maybe? So yeah, maybe we don't know anything about this game, but they're situation is starting to look like all these companies situations. If this kind of trend keeps up Deadline won't be around for you to complain about knowing nothing about their projects.

WHy is everyone sad and concerned over a game we know NOTHING about ?
Where is a video , a screenshots to even start complaining about a "loss" ?
And what's even the point or even the journalism here gspot , without again said infos or pics ? I'm playing grumpy here , but yeah i'm torn at the possible loss of a cooperative shooter with a guy and girl ... gee that's unique and original

I think the main problem in backing a title of this nature is there is no benchmark to compare it to. The problem with publishing a "non-mainstream" game is the uncertainty of the game's success as proven by similar titles. Unfortunately it is not the coolest way to conduct business due to the usual hit or miss nature of the titles, but it is the safest by letting someone else take the initial risk and then making a similar title if the market proves the genre or style is a winner in consumer's eyes.

One of the coolest concepts for a shooter in years, and of course there's no publisher because it's just not mainstream enough. I'm just gonna go ahead and add it to the list of cancelled would-be-amazing games, along with Cry On and Metronome.

They should use this time to further develop and tweak all the glitches and the such out instead of just sitting and waiting until the last minute. I must say, this game sounds great though. I hope they find a developer for it.

Publishers haven't given up on fresh ideas. The consumers have. If people bought more original games and not sequals or generic shooters and RPGs then we would see more. So don't blame publishers. Just get used to the idea that people who want original ideas are in the minority, and the people who want a "safe" game for their $60 are what publishers HAVE to appeal to in order to stay in business.

  • XFoogyX

    Posted Jan 30, 2009 1:55 pm PT

oh great. we're giving up co-op bank robbery game for more games based on movie/ cartoon licenses.
I'm ready to give up on video games altogether if publishers keep ignoring fresh ideas.

Is this honestly a surprise? I guessed from the beginning that it would be a long time if ever that this game would come out.
