Square Enix first took the lid off of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - The Crystal Bearers for Nintendo's Wii way back at the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo. Oddly, while that game has retained its TBA release status, Square Enix has opted to continue announcing--and releasing--other Crystal Chronicles offshoots of Square Enix's revered Final Fantasy franchise, including My Life as a King on WiiWare in May.

Today, one more Crystal Chronicles title was added to the franchise, and all signs point to it, also, beating The Crystal Bearers to market. As spotted by Gamekyo--nee JeuxFrance--the latest issue of Japanese mag Shonen Jump reveals Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time will arrive in the island nation for the Wii and Nintendo DS on January 29, 2009. Square Enix had not responded to requests for comment on a North American release date as of press time.

According to GameSpot's translation of the Shonen Jump article, Echoes of Time will allow for cross-platform online play between the Wii and DS versions. Also of note, players will be able to transfer Miis created on the Wii to the DS game. As opposed to the city-building focus of My Life as a King, Echoes of Time will also return to the original Crystal Chronicles' team-based action role-playing mechanics.
