Far Cry 2 howling October 21

Ubisoft reveals release date of its semi-sequel to acclaimed 2004 shooter, which will ship in Europe Oct. 24; both territories to get collector's edition.

The recent dating of Dead Space, Fallout 3, Resistance 2, and Call of Duty: World at War has gamers' fourth-quarter schedules rapidly filling up. Now they'll have to mark their calendars again, as Ubisoft has finalized the ship date of its upcoming shooter, Far Cry 2.

Though Far Cry 2 has long had a general October release, it now has an official October 24 launch date on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3--in Europe, anyway. American Ubisoft reps confirmed to GameSpot that the game will launch in the US on all three platforms three days prior on Tuesday, October 21. The date had been listed by online retailers for some time, but is now officially official.

Far Cry 2 is a sequel of sorts to Far Cry, the critically acclaimed 2004 shooter from now EA-allied German developer Crytek. The game ditches its predecessor's science-fiction-tinged setting for a more straightforward action premise. Instead of lab-bred mutants on a tropical island, players will take on arms dealers camped out in the wilds of Africa.

Far Cry 2 will retail for $49.99 for the PC and $59.99 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. As part of Today's European announcement, Ubisoft unveiled a collector's edition of the game (pictured), which will also include an "Art of Far Cry 2" book, a guide book, the obligatory making-of DVD, and a map of the game's 50 square-kilometer open world. In the UK, the CE will be available exclusively through retailer GAME. Ubisoft reps confirmed that the CE would also arrive in the US under a similar arrangement, but had no further details as of press time.

    I already have the Special edition, it has a black T-Shirt too, they forget to mention that. I love the smell of the map...it smells like an old map... Really cool

    i didn't play far cry at that time...my pc was a reck, but when i played it..it was awsome. and this shiping out 2 weeks...can't w8

    I just heard that they have exclusive levels for gamestop pre-orders. I'm pissed that is not the way to get my business. I'm thinking of canceling my pre-orders there or canceling my pre-order of Far Cry 2. I'm sick and tired of these companies putting exclusives or limits on our pre-orders. This is beggining to be an annoying trend by these companies.

    I didn't like Far Cry (sorry in advance) but this one has me excited. I hope the AI is as good as the dev's state, if so it'll be a revolutionary game and well worth a buy.

    With Wrath of the Lich King finally getting an OFFICIAL release date (november this year), this game has no chance of being PC game of the year. Otherwise it might. Either way, I can't wait to play both.

    this game will possibly be the best game ever. farcry (if you havent played the original go play it) was freakin awesome. the editor is one of the best parts of the game with endless customization. the graphics will be redonkulous (at least for the PS3) and the way that you create the storyline is intense. hope ou are ready for some intense action in fan-made maps

    sounds like an improvement from the first Far cry...ill add it to my Xmas list along with..Gears of war 2, Resistance 2, Fable 2, Brother in Arms HW, the new Prince of Persia, Mirrors Edge, Dead Space, COD WaW, Bioshock for PS3, EndWar, GTA4 DLC and some i cant even remember right now. let me finish by quoting the cab driver from GTA4 "This is Gonna Be Fun!!"

    Well, with Silent Hill and Mercenaries 2 coming in September, Little Big Planet, Dead Space, and Fable 2 coming out in October, and Gears of War 2, Mirror's Edge, and Tomb Raider in November, and now Far Cry 2 to add to this period of hot releases. It's like last year's November all over again. These games all look great. I'm gonna go broke again

    why make a quality title that makes you use your brain instead of some M-rated shoot-it-up for people with triggerfingers? theres a reason the video game industry is under fire, its todays generation of gamers, and to a lesser extent, todays consoles.

    I really hate the lame puns Gamespot use. Especially since I thought this game was ditching all the primal stuff from Instincts.

    I wish they'd just write what the story really is in the title instead of playing games with me.

    im almost done with Far Cry. such a hard game. not my favorite game though. hopefully far cry 2 gets rid of mutants and makes movement and shooting more realistic.

    I'm so glad the mutant crap is gone now. That killed the first game for me. After that started happening I just stopped playing the game. It was a stupid thing to put into it.

    probably the best game coming out this year. fallout, fable 2 maybe...cod:waw looks pretty good because its using the cod4 engine. i dont think it will be crap like cod3 that wasnt good. ok though.

    I am really confused.... on one hand this game looks hell lot better than Resistance 2, on the other hand I think Resistance 2 will is loaded with features like Co-op gameplay, multiplayer, etc
