As Benjamin Franklin once famously noted, "In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes." Had Franklin been a gaming-industry analyst living in this day and age, he probably would have added two other things to this list: more Dynasty Warriors and Gundam games.

This week, Japanese publisher Koei announced the follow-up to last year's Dynasty Warriors-meets-Mobile Suit Gundam spin-off series. Aptly titled Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2, the tactics-based sci-fi beat-'em-up is scheduled to arrive for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 2 in 2009. Once again a mash-up of two big-in-Japan properties, Gundam 2 features Namco Bandai subsidiary Sunrise Studios' iconic militarized machines battling it out against hordes of enemies in traditional Dynasty Warriors fashion.

Koei's emphasis this time has been on scale, and players will be able to face off their customizable armor suits against supersized mobile fortresses on both the surface of distant planetary bodies and the outer reaches of space. The game will also incorporate storylines and new robots from recent episodes of the Gundam anime series as well as the Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack feature film.
